Motorsport garages around Stoke on Trent

Hi there,

Recently had an interview at National College of Motorsport, well today I had my interview. Due to my qualifications I already have, they would like me to have an apprenticeship place sorted much before the new term start date of September. This would mean I wouldn't have to attend college at all and just have everything sent to me and save myself £2000 on course fees.

What I would like to ask as I'm from Plymouth and moving to Stoke on Trent. My question is, what motorsport garages are there around Stoke on Trent within 25 mile radius maximum as would like to keep costs to a minimum.

Garages I would be looking for would be Motorsport based E.g: Race Preparation, full race team, engine tuning plus race preparation etc...

Help would be much appreciated.

I am searching for a lot. I'm in Stoke on Trent at the moment looking. Going to speak to PSI tuning tomorrow but I don't know if the college would say it don't meet the criteria.

But I am just asking to see if others know of any also.

I wouldn't mind living in Silverstone as so many teams around but only problem with that is Stoke on Trent is so much cheaper to live at. I'm a weird sort of person who couldn't live in a shared house. Need own space to relax.

Will give Don Law a call. Race Prep would suit me down to the ground. Going to see whats in Manchester. If found a very good place I will get train in to keep costs down.

Have a look at Lohen Mini specialist, a very well known Mini tuning spcialist and they race in the John Cooper Challenge. They are located in Stoke.

Er, motorsport may not entirely be for you. Even in F1 you'll spend half your life sharing a hotel room.

Don't rule out living near Silverstone. You'll be able to house share fairly easily and a lot around there will come with a decent amount of space. Failing that you could probably find somewhere to rent cheaply enough, if you don't mind living in a hole

I think Zytek are in the Derby area and Zul Racing.

Skip Brown are in the Nantwich area and there are several near Oulton Park (Xero Competition, Speedworks, Piranha Motorsport etc), if you can go that far.

CampDavid, I know exactly what motorsport will be like. I've done research, been told about it, know of the long hours. I have done a course already. I just mean my own house, I like to go home and have my family around me if you know where I'm coming from. Home is where I chill out and have a laugh. Thats what I mean.

I'm going to be visiting a few places today and also ringing JW Racing to see what they say as I know they take on graduates from Staffordshire Uni to prepare them, so may take me.

Trust me until you have done it you don't. I thought I did. I didn't.

I spent 6 weeks straight Monday to Sunday with the team racing every weekend and reprepping the cars during the week.
I spent Monday - Wednesday 10 hours with my team mates and 24 hours with them the rest of the time during that 6 weeks.
Didn't see my family or girlfriend longer than a few hours as your so tired.

There is money to be made but to start it can be bad. I spent 3 months making enough to cover getting to work.

On the other hand you get paid to go all over the world, race some amazing cars at some amazing places and work with the filthy rich.
I loved every second.

Going off experiences of a few people I know I'd avoid these if you want to learn anything. And they don't do any serious motorsport prep to my knowledge. Don Law will be your best best, or the others mentioned above.
