British Grandprix or Sky

Hello,

I live just outside MK and go to Silverstone all the time for proper racing (HSCC, VSCC, C&SCC, BRSCC etc) but I have never been to a grand prix.

Now i thought i might go this year. but to get a decent covered seat for the "wife and I" and park the car and be able to go for all 3 days will cost £700! Plus i'll get stuck in queues.

Or We could stand on tip toes behind pissed people in folding chairs and ferrari flags having sat on a flaming bus from Northampton and it'll still cost £300.

So! shall I just use the money to buy Sky HD?

What option C which is - Go To Spa or the Nurburgring, for probably less than a weekend at Silverstone all in?

Go to the F1 race of your choice and watch all the F1 races for nothing. Screw sky.

The Korean GP was hardly crowded and Seoul is quite a nice place to go.

Or India perhaps?

Tie it in with a holiday then the travel cost isn't nearly so bad.

You need an option of neither. I'm doing Le Mans Classic this year & couldn't care less about F1 at all. I've done one F1 race, German GP in 1982 & it was so so.

Le Mans cost just over £350 for me.... you will have a better time and race too

Its what I do, a week away a road trip and a better Grand Prix in a different country all for less than Silverstone.

Go to a race and watch live whether its Silverstone, Le Mans, or believe it or not Monaco can be done on a budget.

Watch out for going to Le Mans, its very addictive!

Go and see the GP Live and in real life at least once, even if you chose to go with the Sky option.

As above. Le mans is a great weekend. Or go to the f1 testing at Barcelona as we did last year. Flights £70. Hotel from £40 per night. (ibis) entry to circuit &10-£15 per day and loads going on. fantastic few days.

I'd try and see a race in person.

TV is ok.. but being there live in a decent spot is such a great experience.

Booked flights to Jerez yesterday, can't wait for the first test

Scenario Put the money agaonst sorting out the scratch on the door, the blemish on the roof and the slight blow from the exhaust

We went to Silverstone last year and it was a great experience, I wouldn't want to go every year but it was a "something you've got to do at least once" thing for me.

Do the full 3 days and camp, that way you won't get stuck in the traffic jams!

I 100% agree with all of that, just how I feel.
I'm going to wait a full season before I make a decision on whether to get Sky, I might be happy to watch highlights and some live on the BBC, I don't know until I see the set up.
I've been to Le mans, Siverstone, Monaco but not yet Spa or Monza, I might do Monza this year since it's only highlights on the BBC.

I went to Monaco in 1997 on a trip organised by a social club at work. £120 including travel, ticket and 2 nights B&B accomodation. The coach journey was horrendous but we made some good friends and I'll never forget it.

Slight thread hyjack but the testing at Barca and Jerez is well worth doing, then? Better than the test days at Silvo? I'm not going to Silvo GP this year but still need a live F1 fix. When are they taking place, please?

I always thought Spa/Nurburgring was quite expensive - must look into it more. If anyone can be bothered to whip up a quick list of rough costs it'd be much appreciated.

Thanks and sorry to the OP if you're not interested in this info. I would recommend seeing a GP live at least once - the choice as to where is definitely yours
