A bit of debate going on here about the effectiveness, or otherwise, of the drag links that are fitted to my sprint car. The car was last raced in about 2003 in the Tasmin Challenge Series. A fair bit of money must have been spent in making and fitting them, so they must have been thought worthwhile at the time. I am now being advised to remove them.

we never ran, one and that was good enoughnto win the class :-)

we did run a big rose joint at the other end of the swing arm, and replaced the the bracket so that the bolt was supported on both sides, quite a few of us suffered from snapping the bolt in the original setup.

we also ran nitron coil overs at the back, we had to heavily reinforce the top mounts though as the originals bent.

if you have those bars fitted Id have thought the best plan was to book a track da and try some testing with them on and off

Thanks for the comments, I know Dave Chant's car does not have them fitted and Jim Walsh, the new owner of Daves car drove, the two Tasmins back to back at a track day at Oulton Park in December. He thought the car with the links fitted seemed stiffer at the rear but that could also be due to spring rates. I will book a longer session and as Graham says try it with links fitted ten removed.

You have to make sure that they are not done up to tight. When set up right they do stop tramping on the start line. pete

Tasmin for sale seems like a lot of car for the money.

Funny how these things turn up. If I remember correctly it was sold by the previous owner, who won the TVRCC Challenge in 2004 or 2005, who confirmed to me by email that the 400BHP was genuine, allegedly, and that it was as run in it's last outing. This last outing was the season finale at Oulton , where I believe it was a 2 horse race for the championship. The class it was in had a PWR upper limit of 220bhp per tonne. (Is that correct Kev, you were in the same class)? Needless to say it walked away with the title. For those who hope that the cure for all ills is the datalogger, our cars were religiously checked after every session. Steve Hall, who had the twin to that engine, now mine, was forced to race in Q class on his own. C'est la vie.
Have fun in 2012 boys, it sounds like it's going to be fun. sleep

That power/wt might be right Tim .. I know when we had the turbo tasmin mapped at emerald I asked for 250 at the wheels (i think that was the number anyway, cant find the graph at the moment) because with the weight of the car (over a tonne) it made it on the pwr/weight limit. In fact that car made it into dave walker's pages in PPC mag because it was one of the rare occasions when a racer had asked for less power not moore!

Back on topic though i can't see the point of those arms unless you're still running on rubber bushes on the trailing arm, in which case why ? Even the rose jointed versions of the std trailing arm suspension had a tight bit in the middle of the suspension travel, i can't imagine adding yet another link fighting against all the others would be an advantage at all. The fact that you say you can't have it too tight suggests it's not following the same arc as the hub itself anyway? if it is helping i can only see it as a sticking plaster covering up something else that is fundamentally wrong.

I don't think it had 400BHP when it ran in the Tasmin challenge, he's owned the car for a long time and developed the car over time, I'm sure when it was last out in the DTEC it was not as quick as Tim's turbo. so I doubt very much that he ever broken the rules.

Sorry Pete. No criticism of you or your car intended and I am very sorry if offence was taken.

Seeing the advert reminded me of my query to the then vendor as to the spec. of the car and I was assured the bhp was genuine, as last raced.

My point was that even when the DL1 figures were checked after every session in TVRCC Challenge there were still grey areas and doubts amongst many drivers as to the PWR figures validity.
All the talk lately of re-inforcing the regs, PWR limits and DL1 checks amuses me slightly as I doubt you will find many drivers who were involved in the later years of the TVRCC Challenge, once turbo cars were allowed, who thought at the time that the class B cars, V8s and turbo cars, were running equally, so I don't think it will be policed with any more vigour in 2012.

Thats all I have to say on the matter and as I won't be involved with DTEC any more I won't be making any more comments.

Once again Pete, I apologise for any unintended offence.
Best regards and adios. paperbag
Toymota.
