Grassroots GT Racing?

Hey all,
Sounds like a bit of a barmey question but is there such a thing as grass roots GT racing? People who want to club race 2+2 coupe's but can't/don't want to spend a fortune jumping into something massive?

The FunCup is as close to 'cheap' endurance racing that exists as a series, but not something that could be described as a 'GT'.

There was club 6hr race at Snetterton last year for slightly older motors => http://360mrc.com/

And, of course, there's several regional 'sports and saloon' series that pretty much allow any type of car going.

Ours certainly isn't! Not much more than normal club meetings (if your being competative)

Maybe try Britcar the Production Cup championship 90min races ?

I recall seeing you being interviewed by Motors TV, in the outer paddock at Brands a few years back. The point was made then that you didn't have a Motor-home, a garage full of uniformed engineers or a team of Michelin starred chefs doing the catering. (But you were still running at the front of the GT Cup pack & endearing yourself to the other competitors in the process)

Hope to do a couple of GT cup rounds this year, so hope to catch up with you. I will be running a 997 cup car, which was what my comments were based on.

Were in for another full championship this year. So as long as there are no dramas we will be there!

Easy, run Ginetta G40 in Britcar Production Cup or Dutch Super Cars for longer races or LMA Sports and saloons type races for shorter races.

Having driven allot of GT cars, I can assure nothing gets as close to a real GT car feel without stepping up the budget significantly. The base car is unstressed and remarkably quick considering they only have 150bhp with no torque (which of course you can increase easily and relatively cheaply in the above series because its a Ford Zetec 1800cc engine).

We can't afford anything GT4 spec at the mo and this car tick's the box perfectly for a GT type car for significantly smaller budget.

I'm biased but you could try CSCC "Future Classics" or "Deutsche Marque". OK, its only 40 min races but the format allows 2 drivers and there is an annual pilgramage for a one hour race at Spa & the possibility of a 300Km race at the Nurburgring. Ideal series for cars like Porsche 944s or BMWs.

If you like older cars then there's "Swinging Sixties".

Have just started talking to the CSCC guys about entering into the Future Classics. Looks like one of the cars i'd want to drive is eligable, just waiting to hear back about the second.
