He's a racing driver competing in a race event, the amount of cash his Dad may have isn't relevant. Also if the pace notes were wrong as suggested then he's not to blame for the incident.

Unlikely, usually if you damage your car you claim off your insurance.

For all you know the driver could well be paying the insurance excess for the claim. Depends how much the insurance will cover, as the car could be worth £100K but a reshell could be £20K. Im assuming its covered, most do.

I agree, one could argue that if the pace notes were incorrect and he hadn't gone off the track he wasn't going fast enough.

Doubt it very much...motrosport is dangerous, enter at own risk blah blah etc etc.

The competitors are still able to recce and add to the pace notes, not everyone does. Some people purchase others peoples pace notes etc etc.

Those Capri's are a South African model, a non Perana shell is cheap as you can imagine. A genuine Perana is not really that expensive in the grand scheme of things really. All depends on what modifications have been done to the shell or if it was a very clean shell to start with.
A chap I know has just imported two Perana that badly need restoration, one to turn in to a road car and one to turn in to a Targa car like in the video. I believe the pair, including import in to Aus was only AU$10K or so.
