Hi all, I'm currently studying for a MEng degree in motorsport engineering and I have recently been trying to secure a placement position for my sandwich year which is the next academic year. Obviously my ultimate ambition is to work in F1 but I understand that doesn't happen on your placement year and it is more common to gain experience working at a supplier or a bit further down the motorsport ladder. I have over 3 years previous experience in competition engines and one make race series along with better than average academic results so I had hoped I would of at least had a few interviews, but so far all I have had is either automated response emails saying I didn't have enough experience or no response at all. Can anyone recommend any reputable companies that offer good placement experience with scope for the future? thanks

Shouldn't the people organising your course have a list of people and companies, who support your course?

Which college are you at?

Does your placement year start in october? If so then you've missed a lot of the F1 placement applications. I am on placement at the moment and next years students were interviewed in November! Its getting earlier and earlier as teams try to pick off the cream of the students.

Sorry if that sounded a bit patronising, it wasnt intended to be! There are still plenty of motorsport teams/companies looking for students, the best idea is just to send a CV to HR departments with a good cover letter. A lot rely on students coming to them rather than advertising placements, if you dont ask you dont get!

Yes I'm looking for the academic year that starts in October of this year. I'm at the Uni of Hertfordshire and have gone through the list they compile. No don't worry i didn't think it sounded patronising. I had applied to them all back in october and november and either got the rejection letter saying I don't have enough experience or no response. I understand that most of the companies don't advertise and have sent a lot of emails to HR departments etc. was just asking if anyone had any more ideas as where to apply really, as I'm sure there are companies I have missed. thanks
