I'm going to the Grand Prix in Malaysia at the end of March, just wondering if anyone has been before and can recommend where's good to sit. I'm thinking of K1 (first corner), but would be interested to hear of peoples experiences of the track.
Also if anyone knows what the easiest way to get to the track is from staying in KL centre I'd appreciate it
I'm also going to the MotoGP there in October so if anyone has recommendations for that too it would be useful.

C1 looks quite good, but if there's no shade I'll probably give that a miss. C2 might be ok though, I'll look into reviews of it.Im also going.

I can get weekend tickets at K1 for £66 which I don't think is bad at all. I just want to get the best view of the track, I've bought tickets before going off the map that I thought would be good, but turned out to be pretty crap.And if you think £20 is cheap look at the MotoGP prices! - http://www.bookmoto.com/mt-malaysia/tickets.htm
I went to the Moto GP race last year and sat in the K1 stands and the view is ideal.
If you can get towards the middle and not too low down you'll get a clear view over the fence as the cars come barrelling into turn 1 and through turn 2, but you'll lose them from sight as they head out into turns 3 and 4. However, a short walk down the back of the stand gives you a great view as the cars accelerate out of turn 2, down the dip and through the right hander up to turn 4.
Other benefit of the K1 stand is guaranteed seating and shelter, which you probably won't get in the covered general entry areas as there is limited shelter available if (when...) it chucks it down.
As for getting to / from the track, sorry to say but whatever form of transport you opt for, take an industrial strength dose of patience with you !!
Traffic was a total mare at the Moto GP, and Malaysians don't do queueing very well... If you drive then rent an automatic and take a good book.
Other alternatives are shuttle buses from KL Sentral station, the train from KL Sentral and then a shuttle bus to the circuit, or a taxi. Can't recommend any of those as I've not used them, and I'll be driving (or rather, hoping someone else in our group will drive...).
Take plenty of sun-cream and drink lots of water (although you may have to buy water inside as they do check some bags and you're not meant to bring your own stuff in, allegedly...), especially if you're down there for most of the day.

To get to the circuit IIRC you use one of the shuttle buses the airport. There is then a direct bus to the circuit. We left early (6.30 ish). Got to the circuit and didnt see another car or anything, thought we had the wrong week. Had a look around & great breakfast. But then nothing to do until the race.
If you get tickets over here the cheapist C1 is about £15 & C2 £30. But this time Im satying with freinds & they got the tickets locally £10 cheaper. As mentioned K1 at a bit more money does look good.

Haven't had much cause to go walking round the circuit - most of the times I've been down there I've been around the paddock / pits area - so not sure how easy it is to get into different areas with just the K1 stand ticket, but I'm sure it's possible with the right approach
I went to the first race there back in 2000 or so and bought a package which included flights from Brunei 5 nights in the Mandarin Oriental a 3 day grandstand ticket and transfers to and from the circuit and airport. Seem to recall it cost me around £300. Starting from Brunei is not ideal for most! However I was passing through on my way to Australia.
I wouldnt have wanted to have a seat without shade, would have been burnt to a cinder in minutes!

I've heard similar stories! Also heard the humidity is equally unbearable.I sat at the top of one of the stands with no cover at Valencia last year, I got seriously burnt there. I imagine Malaysia is similar heat, won't sit in uncovered stands again after that.
We have been to the last two gp's and got tickets in k1....great value!!
We got the sky bus from klcc which was really cheap but the trick on the return journey is to get out of the circuit and walk down the hill ASAP to the coach park.
Last year we didnt bother with quali as other than on track action sepang has nothing to do unlike Singapore. Beer was ok price wise but the food situation is pretty pretty poor at the circuit.
Wish we were going again this year but sadly not.......enjoy and don't forget the sunscreen!!!

At the risk of stating the obvious, take a hat, suncream (strong stuff) and maybe one of those cooling sprays you can get in Boots. And drink lots of water and things like 100 Plus (a local isotonic drink).
It will be hot, but it's not unbearable - just don't go jogging about the place and it's OK
We did this last year,
C1 uncoverd grass bank you can see turns 7 to 9
C3 covered grass bank you can see turns 7 to 15. but 14 to 15 are a long wqay away.
Back streight stands, you can see 7 to the turn in to 15
The rotunda thing, North Side you can see turn 6 to 6 and 15, South Side you can see turn 7 to 11 and 15
Main Straight, All you can see is the straight and the pit lane, from the elower tier. From the top you can also see turn 2 to 4.
K1 you can see down the strat straight and to tunn 4
F Stand, ypu can see turn 4 to 11 and down either the start or back straight.
C3 is good and cheap, F offers the best view for the money. Front stand if you want any part of the little atmosphere there is.
There is a big screen on the east end (toward turn 2) of the pit biuilding roof you can see from the main stand, sometimes there is a big screen facing the back stands.
My advice, and I love Sepang as a track to drive on, is don't bother, go another race, there is liitle activity apart from the race, commentry, screen availability and comminication with the crowd is awfull (see what happend with the accident at the MotoGP, and when the race was cancelled). I live 30 miles away spend most weekends at Sepang with either a car or abike, there this weekend testing, But I dont bother to go to the F1.

Thats a bit harsh to recommend missing out this GP.
I know not much goes on during the day, but it is very good value for money. You do see a lot more of the circuit than anywhere else. The commetary thing isnt really a problem as most of us are knowladgable enough to follow the race. And KL/Malaysia is a good place for a few days as well.

Kev I agree it is good value stand alone, and if you happen to be in Malaysia on a business trip or a holiday, then it worth it as an add on, I know people who tie it into a beach holiday. But if you are coming from Europe 12 hours on a plane and hotel etc just for the race, it isn't cheap, and I am sure there are better returns on the money and time spent at other tracks.
The problem is it is not a rece for race fans, it is a business event, there is almost no activity around the race, last year the only thing I saw in Kl was a red bull run on the street,about 30min, and an autograpth session in the twin towers for 20 minutes by two drivers, hardly in keeping with the publicty of KL the Grand Prix city. The big events like when Lional Ricjie did a concert had a ticket price of over 2000 pond a seat, not only was it to expensive for me, I had to turn down invites as it was in excess of my employers gift policy.
