NIMBYs get their comeuppance

A couple buy a house 500 metres from a speedway stadium and decide to try and get the place shut down due to the noise blighting their lives.

They now have a legal bill into the hundreds of thousands which I suspect will blight their lives somewhat more than a speedway track and serves them right. It's about time some common sense was shown in matters like this and I hope it can be used as a legal precedent the next time some idiots move next door to a racetrack and are surprised by the noise.

what it's not really that bad fs ! I live under the flight path for RAF cottesmore, I miss hearing them in bed coming back from their night flights

I meant the fact people can move next to an airfield, complain, then get near enough a million quid.

That should ensure Croft, Castle Combe, Thruxton and Silverstone have something to work with.



Maybe Castle Combe could apply for some loud cars to come back again...

1) buy a house without looking around the local area to see what's about?
2) launch legal action that they know full well they can't afford to foot the bill for
3) Wonder why they become hated locally
4) then bh on about how their house is worth less

I doubt very much that they didn't know the stadium existed, they probably bought the property cheep, due to it being there, then tried to get it shut down.

Their sowed the seeds of their own downfall, and fully deserve it

Fantastic news, about time somebody stood up to the twunts that move into places from outside and try to get the local activities shut down because it doesn't fulfil their idea of a peaceful Utopia.

Was Croft (and Combe, for that matter) actually a court case? I'm pretty sure Combe would have been a council decision. That would be subject to Judicial Review, and we now know what the judges think.

Croft was a court case as far as i know, certainly was based on a complaint from a resident though (who was a family member of the owners, by marriage)

Times are hard enough for a lot of speedway tracks in this country without NIMBYs like this thinking they can move into an area and start shutting them down.

You cant, Im sure they did know and its was just a try on, that has failed to epic proportions.

I do hope the likes of croft can go for judicial review. Croft was an odd one as it centred round a divorce IIRC

Yes the council issued a noise nuisance order, which was campaigned for by a small number of NIMBYs who don't actually live in Castle Combe, they're from the village I live in. The noise isn't really that bad. I'm on the Parish Council and sadly there are 2 or 3 members who have a serious dislike for the circuit.

Howard doesn't do himself any favours though. The circuit has a number of different types of planning permission with various numbers of days permitted per year, based on the number of cars on track at any one time. Japfest, which causes queues from the circuit back up to the M4 (approx 8 miles) and is their biggest annual event, is termed as a "dealer day" which, whilst fitting with the relevant number of cars on track, is hardly in the spirit of things and understandably causes consternation.

The circuit has permission to operate somewhere around 240 days of the year, and in the last decade has never run more than 180 days but I bet the local morons don't realise this.
