"The new HRT F112 completed its first laps at the Barcelona circuit on Monday ahead of its grand prix debut in Australia in less than two weeks.

The Spanish squad took advantage of the filming day regulations in order to shake down its new car after having been unable to get the car ready in time for the Barcelona test last week.

Indian Narain Karthikeyan was the man in charge of driving the car in its maiden outing late in the afternoon at the Circuit de Catalunya, after a frantic effort by the team to get the car ready in time.

Karthikeyan's team-mate Pedro de la Rosa was at the track following the proceedings. "

Now if you were running HRT - would you put Pedro de la Rosa in the car, widely regarded as the best test driver there is, or some numpty who has hardly driven a race car in the last 6 years and widely regarded as totally ste.

( I know it's not an official test - but even more reason to try and get some usable feedback)

As it was a filming day, not an official test session, I'd imagine that Karthikeyan was in the car to please/serve the sponsors purposes. Otherwise, as you were.

When they said De La Rosa was following proceedings, I expect they meant he was following in the safety car, since he realised it goes faster.

Is that all the sponsorship they have? How do they afford to run an F1 team with just one sponser for a year?
