Just finished watching an article on the French TF1 news on Romain Grosjean, team mate of Kimi at Lotus next year.
Apparently he spends some of his spare time whilst not driving cooking in a 3* restaurant. I'm sure there's a joke in that somewhere.......

This rumour may be a misunderstanding of his Finnish teammate's dialect...

In Bill Bryson's book, "Mother Tongue", he makes the claim that there are no swear-words in Finnish, and that to compensate for this, the Finns say the equivalent of "in the restaurant" when we would say "oh s**t" or perhaps "b*ll*cks".

--Kimi what do you think of your new team mate?
--I think he's in the restaurant.

If he is a good chef does he know how to make his own icecream it could save the team a lot of money.

HA!

Grosjean worked as a bank clerk in Geneva I believe. I don't know what Jaime Algesuari did.

That's strange, as neither of them are pay drivers! JA was on the Red Bull programme and RG has been with Gravity for some of the time and got where he is now through talent alone.

I think Grosjean will be the surprise package of the year, look at his history since he was ousted from Renault by Petrov's wheelbarrow of Roubles and he's won everything he's tried at a canter. He;ll probably take a couple of races to find his feet, and then I can see him challenging for podiums if the car is up to the task.

When Grosjean raced for us in 2010 in GT1, he was often in the kitchen in our hospitality unit, making lunch and dinner for himself and us occasionally. He is indeed a very good cook, and thoroughly enjoyed it. I'm sure I have a photo of him in our kitchens. Very, very nice guy, extremely talented, and with immense focus and determination. Like all drivers, he hated the balance of performance and weight penalties for success as this reduced the visibility of his talent compared to the rest of the field. We did not have the fastest or most powerful car, but had the best chassis and package (except for the MC12).

In GT1 in Abu Dhabi in 2010, he made everyone else on the track look ridiculous as he did his stints. He extended his lead by 2 seconds a lap for 10 laps then held station at 20 seconds. Staggering to watch and great for a number of reasons: He'd never sat in the car until he arrived at Abu Dhabi, it was his first race in GT1, he was the only driver on the grid to have raced in Abu Dhabi previously (2009 F1), and it was his birthday (24 yrs old) on the day of the race. We had a great celebration.

Good memories.
