What does it mean and does anyone have a link or explanation as to what Mercedes have found on their rear wing that helps straight line speed?

That's a bit mad, isn't it? I wonder if they left the old F-Duct pipe in the chassis "just in case"?

Can you imagine the scale of the task for the other teams having to retro-engineer a path for this 'air' to get from the rear to the front...and no-one is sure whether it is useful yet...

Hope it works, hope it is allowed to stay on the car, and hope its PITA to copy.

HOPE it mixes up the grid.

I've onyl read a small part of Scarbs FWFD piece but I get the gist.

Bloody clever these F1 designers aren't they! smile
Bloody clever as it seems to get round the current regs......I so hope this does not start a legal battle

Any news of any teams protesting yet ?

Or will they have to wait to see if there is an 'unfair' advantage before they can protest

Just imagine all the home bases of the teams charging around like mad trying to work out if they can engineer one on to their package and what advantage they will gain.....

ETA.....and the red hot phones to the teams legal bods ....... readnerdsmash

this seems to suggest the thought process is more 'how quick can we copy it' than 'ban it'

Although I'm also confused by it as it seems to me that Autosport and Scarbs are describing different things - rear f-duct (Autosport) front-wing f-duct (scarbs)!

BTW - I keep writing 'f-duck' by mistake! hehe

It's kind of both a widget in the rear wing is 'opened' when DRS is enabled that re-directs the 'air' back down to the front of the car to also stall the front wing... double less drag = more speed...;ast year it led to an unstable car, as the F-Duct operated at certain wind speed not when the DRS button was pushed....this year maybe they've cracked it...?

Maybe not, but I can see Red Bull making use of that "driver cooling" slot in the RB8's "duckbill" for the rear wing...I'd hazard a guess that they were hedging their bets by opening that up...
