I'm looking for some information on the opening round of the 2012 GT Cup Championship at Donington at the end of April. I've not been to this race event before and can't seem to find any info regarding a schedule for the day.

For anyone who has been to the 2011 events, are there any support races for this series. What time does the racing start and is the Pit Lane open to the public before the race. Additionally is the tempory 'Grand Stand' at Redgate put up for this event? I am going with my dad and due to bad knees he has difficulty standing at these event's all day. When I was at the BTCC a temporary grand stand was errected and you paid an additional fee (£5 or £10 I think)on top of your ticket price for a seat. There's no mention of this on Donnington's site, just a gate price of £15.

Thanks in advance for any info

Stu

Ohh and a link to the info on the Donnington site

I would email Bute Motorsport via their website http://www.gtcup.co.uk/ - I've found them to be very helpful in the past. They would be able to help with the Support package at least.

The Donington Park website I have found to be sparse on detail in the past - try calling them directly.

I doubt the temp grandstand will be there, since the changes at Redgate there doesn't seem to be room for it any more. The stand on the start/finish straight is still there though, and there was some seating on the infield overlooking the esses last time I was there.

If you want a better view, try joining the DPRAC as they have a members enclosure at the top of the hill overlooking the craner curves. Only £15 for the year, and you get a decent cuppa and snacks at a sensible price, and access to decent toilets smile

I saw the GT Cup at Donington in 2010 and 2011. I think your best bet for a grandstand is the start/finish straight. Might not be thrilling viewing but close to the paddock, pit lane and podium ceremonies.

I'd expect a full bill of MSVR support races, check the website for more details. You'll have a great day!

Was up there for the BTCC yesterday and these have been taken down now. Looks like your only option is the main grandstand on the start/finish.

Was the infield grandstand on the start/finish straight a BTCC special or a permanent item? I can't remember whether it was there for any of the clubbies last year. That would mean potentially two 'stands on the pit straight at least.

Was that still up at the weekend then? If it was, it was there pretty much all of last season, I'd just forgotten all about it. Didn't really venture round that area over the weekend.

The infield on the Esses had gone though, which was also there for the majority of last season (well, it certainly was for the WTCC, GT Cup and British GT meets)

Yeah it was. I ended up taking some photos from Goddards and it was very much there, with a couple of thunderboxes behind as well. No sign of the previous 'stand on the infield at the chicane though.
