Why do they insist on spurting out the result of F1 qualifying when they are going to show the highlights later? The whole interest is diminished once you know who is going to be on pole etc., yet they don't even give you a chance to turn the sound down/off when they are reporting it on morning TV.
Not satisfied with handing over the rights to Sky, they really know how to shoot themselves in the foot don't they.

Was brought up on the BBC Feedback Programme on Radio 4 yesterday. Basically, the news producers more or less said "We don't give a s
t".
They claimed that their prime duty was to give the news and sport - not to cater for people's TV viewing habits. They said that in a short news bulletin or in the opening news and sports headlines, they didn't have the time to give the details in a long winded way that would enable a radio listener to get to the radio to turn the volume down.
My advice is tio just avoid radios, TV and the internet until the highlights come on. There is no other sure fire way of avoiding hearing results.
If you can't do that, I would examine your lifestyle and dependency on needing to be in touch with media output constantly.

I manage it most Saturdays because I like to watch Match of the Day in the evening and prefer not to know the results beforehand.

My life rarely allows me to be at home at race time. So I watch on iplayer. The only tricky bit is wading through the tinterwebnet on my way. I try and paste bbc.co.uk/iplayer into the address bar, but AOL homepage is such a blabber mouth...
I would suggest that saying the result on the news, and leaving those who do not want to hear it to make the effort of avoiding it, is to cause much less inconvienience to the greatest number than it would be to leave off news items in their entirity
I admit that avoiding the results of afternoon footie matches before 10.30 pm is probably easier than avoiding an early morning GP practice or race before an early afternoon highlights show. My radio listening tends to be in the morning so there is a higher likelihood of hearing the results inadvertantly.
Avoiding media is the easy solution but I like to hear news, traffic reports etc whilst I'm out in the van. They can manage 'In SPL news, <story>' or 'and to tennis, <story>' so why launch straight into every F1 item with the name of the driver on pole being the first two words uttered? Even if you mute it in time, it's still fairly obvious otherwise he wouldn't be mentioned straight off the bat.

Agree with this. I avoid any kind of media at all costs if I am trying to avoid spoiling a race.
