Sky commentator!!!
Discussion
Yup, almost universally raved about when doing the 5 Live commentary for the last few years, as soon as he switches to Sky he seems to get slated by some....
To be air I think he's probably still adapting his commentary from radio to TV so perhaps needs to keep quiet and let the pictures do he talking, but I really like him.

Great commentator IMO! Might get a bit to excited at times but he is in a different league to Legard and Allen!
You should have heard the commentator for the Daytona 200 bike race, he was bad! 4 fighting for the win on the last lap and he didnt know what was going on and didnt sound excited!

I think Crofty's slightly jovial/jokey manner rubs Brundle the wrong way, sensing a bit of tension in the comm box.
Someone in m/sport TV told me, when the leggard was going to be replaced that MB and Croft didn't used to get on, but to be fair, I'm not hearing that, I've just finished watching the sky live broadcast recorded (nice to fast forward thru the adverts) and I thought it was good.Lazenby is starting to relax, although he's still not comfortable walking and talking, Damon was more relaxed, and improving, Pinkham was much better, on the downside Ant Davidson is completely wasted, and is relegated to not making Georgie Thompson look like midget, indeed seeing her interview Martin Whitmarsh between him and Ted Kravitz on the F1 Show, she looked like she wanted to ask "can I have a lolly dad?"
Croft is not making a transition to TV, he's being doing TV for a while. Hes a little shouty, but neither as bellowy as Allen, or fake excited as both Allen or leggard.
If you want see how... good he is, (or maybe why I think he's fine) watch GP2, when Will Buxton talking and talking, almost carlton Kirby levels of inanities, especially when he is on his own for practice and qually, I have a new drinking game, a shot when he says "gunning it", and a beer chaser, when a car is "bolted to the track".

That's what I don't get. He was the man to replace Legard in the eyes of many, but didn't get the chance. Now another year down the line, he's got the big TV job and he's been criticised quite a bit.I felt he was better this weekend than last, less shouty.

I agree.....he was a total nightmare last weekend, but much better today.I felt he was better this weekend than last, less shouty.
Keep up the progress Crofty and STOP SHOUTING.

Agreed, what is that woman doing there? She is not exacly "eye candy"; just stupid!I would hope that Ant's role is developed; he sees and explains the detail really well.
I suspect that Crofty and Damon may be on a one year contract until DC comes available, next year.

I doubt it, Brundle's quite openly said that he much prefers doing the expert sidekick role rather than lead commentator, so I'm not sure he'd want to go back to being lead with DC alongside. Although I like him as a person I'm still to be convinced by Damon in a pundit type role so I'd personally prefer to see Ant Davidson given a go, as I too think he's wasted just doing a couple of 2 minute features in front of the Sky Pad thing. I wouldnt even mind Martin dropping to lead pundit and Ant sitting alongside Crofty for commentary as I think they worked really well together on 5 Live.

There's a whole other 65+ page post about the race, idiot.
YOU missed the whole whole SKY commentary thread and have the cheek to call him an idiot ?LOL
for the record i like Crofy and to even mention him in the same post as legtard is amazingly off the mark.
IMHO of course

I'm sure when Damon was announced, it was said he wouldn't do every race, so maybe Ant Davidson will get a more prominent role then.Forums | General Motorsport | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
