Knockhill SMRC 08/04/2012

Did anyone go to Knockhill yesterday? It was a fair day out for the first meeting of the season.

Damn shame about that lovely little Austin A30/35 rolling but thank heavens the lady driver wasn't hurt! We looked closely at the car prior to qualifying, it was one of the best prepared race cars I've seen, absolutely lovely, heart breaking for the owner/driver that it got destroyed.

This is not what we go to Knockhill to see, poor privateers loosing their pride and joy. Hearts goes out to the owner and driver who we spoke to in the paddock just before this happened. They were so proud of their achievements in restoring this little car to it's outstanding race prepared condition then it's gone.

Oof. These things can happen when you have much faster cars on track at the same time though.

True, and having watched the clip a few times she did move across the faster car, first time out and probably very nervous, just a damned shame, they were so proud of the little car, and it was so well prepared.

I was out, some great racing from the Minis and Fiestas in particular.

That TR8/ Austin crash is all sorts of unlucky, maybe need to spend more time looking in there mirrors though.

you are absolutely spot on, poor lady just made a very simple mistake and had catostrophic consequences, I really hope that this doesn't put them off trying again, it was a wonderful little car and they had so much committment to it.

What a shame.

The TR8 did seem to be adopting some unorthodox lines prior to the contact and wasn't exactly smooth. It also looked like it clipped the rear quarter of the Austin.

All academic though and just one of those things.

Indeed, I hope the Austin driver isn't put off.

we were at the back of the circuit when the minis crashed on the Railway straight right in front of us(OK, I know it's called something else but....) They were both really lucky that they didn't roll ond do more damage!!

Hi Cliff - nice to bump in to you ... albeit in a virtual sense.

Aye, I'm getting there but it's slow man! I am close to returning to work though. While I might have mixed feelings about this, it'll allow me to stabilise the bank account and start thinking about a new car.

I hope to be out once or twice this season double driving Murray's Fury and then hopefully be in something new and competitive in 2013.

I don't know if Murray mentioned it but part of the purpose of the trip south was for me to have a look at these. We were both very impressed.

It was also good to visit Extreme and drop Murray's engine off. In retrospect, I should have taken my own engine down for a refresh since we were making the trip. We were able to take an engine up the road for "you know who" though so that was good.

Donington was ace! For me (and I think Murray too) the car and driver of the meeting was Sue Darbyshire in the 1260cc Morgan Super Aero. Fantastic!

Plently of footage on YT including lots of hillclimb action (mostly Prescott I think).



If you're ever at or, indeed, near Donington, the museum really is a "must see". Truly fantastic!

I was struggling a bit though with walking and standing around so we had to cut it short. I feel guilty that I maybe dragged the big fella away a bit before he was ready.

Lots of beer and stories on Saturday night in York and then up the road.

We had intended to go to Croft for bike racing but I'd over done it on the Saturday so we just decided to scoot back ... and then we stumbled upon a grass track meeting. This was superb and interesting to us since 'busa engines are very popular.

On the way to the M1, we spotted some scooters.

Leisurely drive up the road, a pint in The Finavon and home in time for tea - perfect!

Anyway, we could maybe meet up for a pint with the big fella?

... actually, I'm not sure I'm talking to him since he admitted that he's bought a caravan.

Everything I've seen from that TR8 both from footage and when I've been at Knockhill leads me to believe the guy's a nutcase.
