race car options to hire out

we are currently looking into building some race cars to hire out for trackdays and race meetings for affordable motorsport. base cars of a value of around £2-5k, thinking of hot hatches such as peugeot 106/205/306 gti, or clio 172/182, or how about e36 bmws, mx5 or mr2. possibly honda type r civic or integra.

cars need to be eligible for as many different series as possible to keep the target market broad.

please give me any suggestions and series the cars could run in.

i have found a leon cupra 1.8t very cheap near me. what would this be eligible to race in?

trackday trophy and team trophy would be fine as its only based on power to weight. what about cscc deutsche marques, i know its a seat, but its a vag car?

what else may it run in, being turbocharged limits it a bit i know. they can obviously be good race cars as they used to run the seat cupra cup.

You cant build and then hire cheap cars out for enough £££ to cover the damage and wear and tear let alone the cost of building them.

This. I fail to see how you can profit from this but good luck if you have done your sums properly first!

obviously there will be repairs etc but its only time when you are repairing the cars yourself.

the cost of building the cars is basically an assett anyway. the parts will always be worth money, and the race car will always be worth money aswell.

i already have customers doing this and making money from it, even though they are paying me £40 an hour to repair the cars when needed!
even if it didnt make huge amounts of money on its own, having rolling adverts on track every race weekend is going to gain buisness in building/maintaining customer cars.

Unless it gets totalled... How will you arrange insurance? That is what is going to prohibitive cost-wise surely?

Just looking at some sites where you can hire track day cars - a Clio 197 is coming in at £800 for a day. Do a couple of those and you may as well have bought a car yourself.

if a car gets totalled then it still has a value in parts, and a deposit of around £750 would be held incase a driver totalled the car. were only talking cars worth a few thousand pounds, and like i say you break it up and sell salvageable items. for more expensive cars insurance can be had for race cars no issue for a few hundred pounds.
a clio can be hired for £800 a day, yes you can buy one, but a clio is £3k, then most people pay to have the car prepped for racing, i can guarantee that £3k will soon turn into more like £10k once it has been caged, harnesses, buckets, extinguishers, decent suspension and brakes, wheels, tyres etc. so £800 for a few rounds end up a bargain! especially for people who may just want to do a few rounds a year for fun, and don't want the hassle of paying for repairs/maintenance etc. they may also want to do a couple of rounds, or even a season, before deciding if racing is for them etc.
at the end of the day plenty of race teams hire out cars, so people must be hiring them, and the teams must be making money from it, otherwise they wouldn't bother.

just realised you said clio 197! well even a std one costs £5k+ thats without race prep

these cars can also be hired out for track days, not only for racing. there are always going to be people out there who may want to do a couple of track days for a laugh without having to spend thousands buying there own car!
