Why Land Rovers aren't built for tarmac rallying.....
Discussion
I was at the Jim Clark Rally this weekend and caught a couple of stages. Hadn't seen the Forces Land Rovers before as they're always at the back of the field, but caught them this time. This was the third one through Eccles village. Loses control, onto two wheels, back onto four wheels, but way offline for the corner and ploughs into a big grey box. The car then reversed away minimal damage (a broken number plate, shows how tough a Landy is!) and down the road. Next thing you can hear hissing, it's only hit a gas main!! Cue the marshals shouting and everybody running like hell to the other end of the village. I've never moved as fast! My friend managed to capture it on photo very well.

certainly looks more like telecoms than gas, but still wtf were the organisers thinking with a route including that in the line of fire on a corner?
There's houses in 'the line of fire' its all part of the fun.

To all the people on and inhabitants of Eccles, I am very sorry for causing you to be evacuated and hope all is ok, I am the driver of the above mentioned landrover. in answer to the question "were we on it" the answer is we were beyond "on it" and given the choice of steel lamp post and plastic box I will take the box every time. All is well with the rover and it is a testament to the strength of the vehicles that we barely had a scratch and managed to finish the rally without any other brown trouser moments, lol
