In top condition, that's a £40k car. If it has any proper provenance, it's worth a lot more. I'd wager it'll ride again.

Just noticed in the second photo the back quarter of a green mk1 parked next to the tc.

A mate of mine was killed several years ago in a motorbike accident.

His ex Pennti Airikala Chevette still sits in his dads barn gathering dust and rust. Still has the paperwork in the navigators door pocket from its last rally (which it won).

Such a shame there as well. I rallied it a couple of times and it was a serious beast.

Historic rally cars (and if it's a DTV car used on the RAC rally it certainly is) are worth a really serious amount of money these days if the provenance can be proved. I know he probably has reasons for leaving it as it is, but he should really get it valued to understand what he has.

I know of a Mk1 Rs1600 in Somerset that is just rotting away. I feel I should go and ask about it, but I expect il just be told where to go and keep my nose out

Then there is the 2 mk2 RS2000s my work mate has that he rekons his dad will do up one day. I doubt it though and I expect they will just become beyond repair

i think a previous poster was talking of Originality....Talk of originality with rally cars is often a load of bks..Ford used to switch reg numbers, identities and shells regularly on all its works cars dependant upon event, previous incidents etc..provenence is key and if the car is a well used rally car then provenence it certainly has...

I don't think the words original and rally cars can be used in the same sentence..

Whether an original twink or not this car looks to have some good history behind it.

I've never done any major work to a car, but surely, if the exterior is like that then underneath must be unrepairable also? The car actually looks twisted from the front.

I chuckled at this "Just to clear a few points up this car will not drive home does not come with a full tank of fuel". Good to see an honest and amusing ad.

If it's a fake twink then it's economically unrepairable. If it's a real one, then even with all that grot it's probably worthwhile.

There's nothing of salvage there. If money was of no object, then you could do, is re build it from ground up and effectively build a new car and then use the chassis / engine numbers. Vintage race cars do it all the time - but that's when what they're building in worth a million quid - this ain't. I'd say it's worthless ?
