Having watched the DTM races on TV recently I was wondering which is the faster touring car. The DTM V8 or the Aussie Supercar V8?

Think there's been a thread on this, I may have even started it, can't remember. If I recall the conclusion was the DTM cars would be faster, less power but lighter and they huge aero advantage they have should get them round quicker.

V8s are better to watch, it reminds me of the gold ol days of BTCC.

My thoughts were that the DTM would be quicker. The V8 Supercar's sound awesome though. Good racing in both imho. V8 Supercars seem to have the Le Mans vibe about the races - but with fighting.

Between the aero, bespoke construction and 300kg weight advantage, I would be beyond stunned if a DTM car wouldn't completely murder a V8 Supercar on almost any track. As has been said though - that doesn't necessarily make it better to watch...

I also think a DTM car would murder a Ozzy V8, but if I had the choice of watching one of the two it would be the V8 Supercars every time! So much more entertaining, better noise and the cars move around much more, not glued down with downforce!

At a AMG event at Bathurst a few years ago Bernd Schneider(could have been another merc driver) said his car would do a 1.59 so 7 seconds faster.

I agree with most of you guys. DTM is probably quicker for V8 Supercars is infinitely more entertaining.

Having said that, I enjoy driving the DTM cars more in sims. All those extra aero pieces give them loads of grip.

I'd like to see a NASCAR sprint cup car at Bathurst. Not sure the lap times would be that good with 3400lbs of car to get up the mountain, but the top speeds on Conrod should be impressive.

Wasn't there a close comparison between DTM and Super GT cars, which are supposedly the fastest 'touring cars' in the world?

The ran a Nascar race there one year, quick enough on the straights but cooked their brakes pretty quickly.
