Sam Severs, Andre's wife and team manager, has contacted us this morning to give us an update on Andre's condition following his huge qualifying accident at Oulton Park on Saturday.
Andre has broken his neck and a cracked vertebrae in his lower back.
His spinal cord is miraculously, and thankfully, undamaged and he is convalescing at home. He has been advised that he should no longer take part in motor racing following this injury as the risk of further damage is too high in another accident.
Sam and Andre wish to pass on their thanks for all the messages of goodwill and support they have received over the last few days.

Andre is my Brother-in-law (I'm Sam's twin brother). I'm not sure they are on PH, so thought I would comment.
Latest from Sam is that the neck brace needs to stay on for at least another 6 weeks. Positive news is that by that time the fractures should have fully healed (or very close to it). He is indeed very lucky and we are all thankful as things could have been much worse.
It was only two weeks ago that he, Sam and Jake and Charlie were here with me in Toronto watching LeMans on TV, commenting on Anthony Davidson's huge shunt. We couldn't have imagined that a week later we would be experiencing something very similar ourselves.
I'm not sure what their plans are for the future when it comes to the racing, but know that it was a HUGE part of their lives, so expect that a complete breakaway will be tough and you're likely to see him (and the rest of the family) around.

Andre has had a positive review at the Fracture Clinic. He has to keep the neck brace on for a while longer but is expected to recover well. There will be further reviews and scans to see the extent of the long term damage and what limitations this will have on Andre's future in life and if there is the potential to let him back behind the wheel.
In the mean time, to keep himself busy, he has started a new project, to restore a 1974 Triumph Spitfire!
