Is this really a surprise? They have been looking for investors ever since they had to make the big changes to the circuit and pits.

I think they should do, there's a premier in and a travelodge 5 miles away in opposite directions but nothing flash - if they get it right they could pretty much charge what they want and still fill it.

Now now, be fair; BTCC, BSB, F1

3 weekends a year.

The problem wouldn't be weekends, most race weekends would draw some demand for a cheapish hotel, its midweek. Why stay there Mon-Fri?

Compared to the f1/motogp the people just aren't there.

You're forgetting business use. Business meetings, sales meetings etc could be held there in what is a usefully central location not forgetting general mid-week business stays - that's where the hotel would derive the majority of its revenue with race weekends a bonus.

Not to mention trackday users, test day users, experience days, corporate days etc. The circuit is in use most days of the year for one thing or another and all those people who are travelling with an overnight stay will currently be staying elsewhere. If I could stay AT silverstone for a trackday that would be awesome. (I drive my car on the road to the circuit and then fit slicks on arrival. If the hotel is on circuit then I could fit the slicks the night before and just cross to the paddock in the morning. )

Before anything like that could happen, they'd have to get it past their membership, who are all racers, and last time it was voted down big time!

This. Taking the piss out of the punter with overpriced low quality food/drink is de rigeur for uk Motorsport. And as fir crowds, well, Iv seen more activity in the pits than in the grandstands at gt races.

A travelodege/premier inn type hotel may work there, as it has v good access to the A43 and would be up their street. They pay up to £1mill an acre for the best I understand, but Silverstone probably isn't that.

That and all they would take it 1 acre as well. Not exactly the magic answer.
