If I had one motor sport wish it would have been to have seen the Targa in period- fabulous scenery , passionate locals and utterly sublime cars. Wonderful stuff.

Just looked on google maps, bloody awsome.

72km (GM saying it 3 more).

fastest on the Piccolo circuit was 6 hrs 7mins, thats 10 laps, 720km, in 908/2 Porsche.

Fastest average speed was 122mph, thats mental.

Sure, but the stare of the road is appalling in many places and of course the villages are very slow. Its still a nice drive, but for touring rather than hard driving. Hard to believe that they drove on it in any condition though.

I think this has all the makings of an excellent road trip:

Ferry from UK to Bilbao.
Cross the Pyrennes then proceed to Italy along the Cote d'Azur.
Over to Brescia and onto the MM route to Rome.
Quick hop over to Sicily for a couple of laps of the Targa Florio course.
Back over to mainland and back to Brescia to cover the remainder of the MM route.
Blat back into France and take the Route Napoleon north and onto a ferry home in time for tea.

I wonder whether my missus would enjoy 3000 miles in the Exige. Actually I wonder whether I would enjoy 3000 miles in the Exige....

I'm actually thinking of a trip in 2014 involving Pau/Monaco Historique/MM in some combination as they usually take place around the same time. Will worry about 2012/13's trips first though. Bucket list only seems to grow larger with time...

Im just a caring sharing sort of chap...

Hopefully will be able to do a full Grand tour in a couple of years, travel many miles far too fast...

Well life doesn't get any longer with time. We're doing a Belgian and Italian GP road trip this year. Next year it is looking likely that we will do Bathurst and Gold Coast 600 over in Australia, with some driving out there. Why not see the world and pay tribute to the drivers, cars and circuits which so thrill us?!
