I bet they got the frIght of their lives when suddenly tossed into the air like that. Thank god nobody was seriously hurt.

Exactly, that's when the most serious of injuries happening when they come out of nowhere.

Very strange that it happened in DTM as the crews are so well drilled. Bit of a surprise.

Glad no one is seriously hurt though.

I remember an incident many years ago involving John Cleland. He was driving the Vauxhall Carlton Thundersaloon in a race at Brands Hatch and had just made a pit stop. Something had upset him (can't remember what, but knowing John it was probably something trivial) and he decided to leave the pits before the air line had been disconnected.

The result was that he dragged a large air bottle behind him for probably 100 feet or so until the union broke off. Could have killed somebody. Can't remember whether he got any sort of punishment but it was very scary and I made a mental note to keep well out of his way on track.

Hazardous places, pit lanes, as everyone should be reminded of, particularly spectators and friends/family of the teams who may not be as aware of the potential dangers.

The video isn't great quality but it does seem like he went down for no reason

Unless something was ricocheting around and managed to hit him? Unlikely

I never noticed that the first time i saw the video. IT does look a little suspicious, he even has a look around and then falls to the floor!

If you look at the slow motion bit, the first guy appears to have the hose wrapped round his leg which hoists him in the air, the other 3 are hit by there own temporary gantry as it is pulled down and round, seems to hit all 3 of them in the face

Sparks and race fuel mix a bit too well, the batteries and motors needed to get the torque required would be massive, and with the DTM cars they need air to operate the internal jacks on the car.

i simply will not put up with news clips that have an advert before them. it boils my p*ss.

the clip itself is probably less than a minute, im not gonna sit through 15-20seconds of ads for that.

Speed, torque, weight and simplicity. Air guns are incredibly powerful. To get the same level of performance from an electric gun would cost a fortune and be fraught with reliability concerns. It would more than likely be pretty heavy, too.

There's also a good safety benefit not having sparky electric motors around where there might be fuel...

Google AdBlock, your internet experience will never be the same again. It knows what parts of any webpage will display ads and stops them coming, even gets rid of 99% of the ads on Youtube.
