Please excuse my ignorance.

But why were the works Austin rally cars painted red with a white roof and not BRG. For example the Mini Coopers and Austin Healeys.

I would be greatful if you tell me to extend my knowledge. Thanks.

Apparently red cars were normally given preference at Italian border controls as the border guards assumed they were Italian cars. They therefore saved time. BMC copied this. The white roof is subject to alot of speculation, but the most commonly assumed reason is that white reflected the heat better.
