Mclaren Honda for 2014??

I know it's planet f1, but this story seems to be gaining more weight at the moment. I hope it happens to be honest

As for the rumour, it makes a lot of sense. That being said, it does add another reason to Lewis's list of reasons for leaving McLaren. He won't want to hang around while they work out the inevitable bugs.

This would mean Honda have to be working on an engine already, or they are way behind the others. It's only a year and a half until the season starts.

They make more sense as an engine supplier imo, as a team they never seem to have the focus needed.

Dispensing with the necessity of evidence just for the moment. Logically it makes some sense. It's an engine format they have had success with in the past, and much more 'on message' with how road cars are going, especially Honda road cars. Also behind the scenes, Bernie must be campaigning for.more road car manufacturers. It's all good pr.

On a more glib note, its a partnership writ in motorsport lore, and especially associated with one A Senna - a man one Mr L Hamilton is rather esteemed of. Let the fight for Ayrtons soul begin (that is of course a joke all those who take mention of those two too seriously)


Now taking that train of thought into the real world, whilst it makes sense, there isn't much evidence for it at the moment.

Would be nice though.

Given the history of the McLaren-Honda partnership, I'd expect a driver to be asking where to sign.

Honda make much more sense as an engine supplier than a full constructor, as its far easier to justify the budget in perusing engine tech which might have some relevance to their core business.

No, they said they weren't going to be making their own F1 engines.

That wasn't what was said when they announced the end of the Mercedes tie-in. Maybe just pundit speculation then as it was in the run up to the MP12-C being released.

ETA - it might have been the season before last come to think of it so hardly surprising that plans change.
