Mmm. I don't think this would be the case. We're it not for the accident, I rather think we'd have seen him in a top team by now, probably in the hunt for this year's WDC. Sadly, we'll never know.PW said:

He "was" a good driver? He's still is by the look of it; he looks fairly happy to me - if he's enjoying it what's there to be sad about?

Love it or hate it though it is the premier sealed surface championship in the world and carries quite a lot of ‘brand recognition’ around the world. If you asked RK if he would rather have 3 F1 WDCs or 3 WEC titles under his belt in 5 years time and I think you would know the answer before your lips started to move, let alone after his had finished moving. In that sense it is a shame and he will have to go on the list alongside the likes of François Cevert, Villeneuve and Carlos Reutemann (WDC if he could have been arsed so slightly different but same list). Heck you could even add McNish but for the Donington accident which affected him far more than is widely known and Jonny Herbert into that mix.
I would love to see RK racing at Le Mans, in the DTM, turning up once or twice a year in Aus and even the odd cameo in GT Masters, BGT or BEC. I’d love to see him win a round or two of the WRC, or even lift the title there. Personally I would just love to see the man doing what he loves the most again.
All that said, when the books are written and the final punctuation mark added to the obituaries the words ‘could have been’ or ‘would have been’ will still loom large, and that is a tragedy as I for one believed that he had at least one F1 WDC in him.
He had a serious accident that could've killed him, or completely crippled him, so looking on the bright side, he's doing really well.
He's made a really good recovery so far and he'll more than likely continue to improve.
He's still enjoying himself competing in some great cars and he's presumably going to make further progress there as well.
Even if you judge his life purely on a basis of his professional achievements he's still doing a lot better than most people ever will.

Pretty much my prediction from months ago was that he will turn up in GT racing somewhere (possibly leading to a LeMans drive). If you were the gentleman driver funding the team, I think you'd be quite happy to have Kubica as the Pro in your GTE entry.StevieBee said:

Him and Kimi in the Lotus this year would have made a great top team.IMO.
