He really doesn't. That 'immature' driver could well be a triple world champion on his 101st race. Adrian Newey, (who I'm sure is admired by most), considers Vettel to have a very mature head, etc.

This seeming insistence for people to try to denigrate for no apparent reason is quite dull. If Vettel is immature, then so is every driver ever to have driven an F1 car.

Yes - his reaction when he got demoted to the pit lane for a fuel irregularity was incredibly childish - swearing, shouting and stamping his feet, blaming the team etc.

And of course having not started from the front, his performance in that race was awful...

Bitter? Probably because he was found out for what he was, an occasionally quick chancer who couldnt win unless his car was streets ahead of the field.

Saw him a few weeks ago driving a BMW Z4 in a GT3 race - at a new street circuit in Azerbaijan, bizarrely (the joys of Motors TV ). Was sharing the car with Jos Verstappen.

I don't think he's wrong. He's saying that when under pressure Alonso keeps his head while Vettel gets rattled more in comparison. He's also saying Vettel's an ace. He's also echoing the opinions of many that Alonso is the driver of the season. He's also comparing someone who is still young in the sport despite being a double world champion to another double champion who has a lot more experience behind him and can be expected to be calmer when faced with adversity.

Nowhere is he saying that Vettel is st.

I don't see why Villeneuve is getting so much stick for voicing these opinions. He's nowhere near the best F1 driver ever but he was good enough to be competitive in F1, he was a proper, committed racer who went for any gap, was awfully difficult to pass, and was as brave as anyone. Remember him going round the outside of Schumacher in 1996 or 7, and wiping out at Eu Rouge trying to win a bet with his team mate that he could make it through without lifting?

You don't have to be the best to have an opinion. If you do, what right does anyone here have to judge Villeneuve?

I enjoyed his time spent on Sky F1 this Canadian GP where he did give a different element to the punditry compared to the likes of Damon Hill and Jonny Herbert. He isn't afraid of treading on some toes and some of the comments made were quite acerbic but not nasty. I very much doubt he'd do a full season as a pundit, rather staying in the America's.

JV really gets a hard time from F1 fans. Fact is he almost won his first ever race in F1 (if it wasnt for a mechanical failure) and pushed his more experience and world champion team mate right to the wire in his first season. Won it in his 2nd season by beating the most successful F1 driver ever. If he hadnt made a few wrong choices in his career he would have probably won a couple more WDCs.

On this occasion I think JV is bang on the money. No doubting Vettel's ability but few would doubt he is quick to lose his rag when things go against him.
