Here is the relavent passage from a letter i have from the Modern classic's organiser after i asked about my chevrolet car:

I'm afraid that its not eligible on three counts (!):

1. It has an engine swap away from the original Rover V8 or AJP8 engines, which is not allowed under our regs,
2. It has a sequential gearbox, and
2. It is fitted with the rear wing and splitter arrangement which is also non standard.

I am sorry about that, but our regs in these regards are sacrosanct. To make the car eligible it would have to have the standard size and shape bodywork, a Rover or AJP V8 engine and the original type H Pattern gearbox.

You could enter your existing TVR Rover in Future Classics and have a second race in Modern Classics, though, if that meant you would have better value for your travel costs. I think I am right in saying that if you enter a second race you get a slight dscount on the second entry fee due to not being required to pay the MSA Insurance premium a second time.

I'm sorry about your Chevrolet engined car, but hopefully you will continue to race the Rover engined version with us.

Umm, doesn't appear to disqualify a 4.7 AJP8 then? Wasn't PW running a 4.7 back in the day anyhow?
Would be interesting to hear whether this chap deems a 4.7 not to be within the "sacrosanct" rules & regs. I couldn't believe he actually used that word hehe

Mark ,They are not interested in the engine internals.you can not run turbo's unless fitted at factory or superchargers. They are letting in all cars that raced in "Dutche marque" this year ( grandfarther rights ) and opening it it up to the likes of BMW E46 and 3.2 turbo and boxster Porshce .some of these cars will give a 4.7 AJP car a right thrashing me susspects but the racing should be very good.As i said they will need to see individual cars and make a judgement on details supplied by the owner. They also have a very good calender of races some rounds outside of the Challenge, here is there provisional 2013.

Provisional dates for 2013
January10th/13th Autosport
February 22nd/24th Race Retro

I am the co-ordinator of the CSCC "Modern Classics" series. If you have any questions regarding eligibility please feel free to e-mail me at: andy_y@classicsportscarclub.co.uk or ask away on here. It would be good to see a few TVRs out with us in our 40 min (1 or 2 driver) races.

Just a quicky I have a stock rover tuscan but it does have the air filter sticking through the bonnet, similar to the later ajp cars. I know this inst allowed in the future classics, but would it be allowed in modern classics ?

I'm afraid that rule stands. The bonnet has to have the original size and shape. It can have flat air filters, with apertures in the bonnet, which are level with the bonnet profile but it can't have protruding air filters. Sorry, the silhouette in all planes rule has to stand.

A 4.7 litre engine is allowed. CSCC has very simple rules that are easy to police and implement, it isn't going to start employing eligibility scrutineers to measure capacity.

The max turbo engine size is 2 litres, not 3.2 as was mentioned earlier.

Hope that helps.

Hi Andy - all being well you will be seeing my TVR Griffith 500 out in Future Classics next year, as my son will have the car all to himself in DTEC

Excellent news. Do you mean "Future Classics" or "Modern Classics", though? I think it should be the latter.

so a standard ajp cant enter then as the original filters stick out past the top of the bonnet ? you would have to run a non standard bonnet?

hi Andy
i am having a bigger fuel tank fitted and smaller domed filters so the profile is as original and will be out in future and or modern classics dependant on time and finances, (rover tuscan challenge car), look forward to chatting at the autosport show and the race retro show. my car will be on the challenge stand at the race retro show so you can have a gander at it there.

My car was accepted for Future Classics this year - just had a major hic-up with a certain engine builder which kept me out of racing nearly all season

It would be a bit daft to exclude the AJP cars from having the filters exposed, after all, that is how they are supposed to be. Why should the cars be modified from original? Cant get my head round this whole filter thing, even some RV8 cars had them on show in the early days. If it was acceptable in the original series why isn't it acceptable to the CSCC which begs the question, "do they really want TVR's or are they just paying us lip service?"

All in my humble opinion smile

do you see any cars in this video that do not have filters sticking through the bonnet?

Its not that they are targeting tvrs its just that filters sticking out the bonnet is unusual for stock, so not allowed on any car in their series as a mod. We are a bit odd because filters sticking out was production at some points.

A rover can be modded reasonably simply but still a pita ajp more difficult as you would need to mod the induction

Not that I intend competing, my ex racer has at the mo a 4.2 AJP engine (ex cerb) complete with 4.2 inlet manifolds that have what look like, from the outside, Tuscan Racer airboxes.

They are almost flush to the bonnet line when using K&N filters, rather than the bulbous Pipercross alternatives of the period.

Either choices though were, IIRC available for use at the time, therefore I would have thought that both options should qualify as acceptable.
