Aero rule changes for 2013
Discussion
The following change has been noted in the MSA Blue Book for 2013 in section J
5.2.7. Aerodynamic devices may only be fitted to Racing and Sports Racing Cars (unless prohibited by an Approved Formula), or where specifically permitted, where FIA homologated, or where complying with National type approval. Such devices must not extend beyond the maximum width of the vehicle, above the maximum height of any roof, or for an open car the maximum height of the ROPS, or extend longitudinally from the bodywork by more than 100mm.
Had your tape measure out yet Perry?

Hi Mark,
You were the one blabbing on another forum
The small amount i have driven the car with the few bits of aero on due to been parked up on side of the track most of the season for one reason or another showed me that the car feels 50% more planted and stable in the braking zone and on the exit.Acording to the straight at Silvestone the drag side of things ain't good.As my car should be near the front of "A" this year,(a different story next year).Down the straight Tim's "B" Rover was not only staying with my car and Deano's but was catching us
amazing for a Rover car. There is always going to be a trade off with having aero against a non aero car, the phyisical advantage i think is very small as you and many others have said it don't work on a Tuscan, allegadly. The main advantage for me personally is i think it makes my car look the bogs doll*cks on track, and am more than willing to trade some performance for the Bling
In truth i think it makes me more confident therefore faster due to the perceived SECURE FEELING it gives the car.Andy Race drove my white car at Brands Hatch in anger with all the mods on, perhaps he might give his thoughts on the feel of my car verses no aero as he is more experienced than i am at the moment. My lap time at Silvestone Nat circuit dropped 4 sec's a lap straight off to the amazement of phil my non beleiving mechanic with aero after a back to back test earlier this year.So i am definatly in the "they don't know what they are talking about" camp.As i say though for me after i have spent an obscene amount of money building my car ,it is all about looking good in the pictures and video's for me.

Mmm if the hoop isn't classed as part of the rops that probably makes half the tuscans illegal as there needs to be 50mm between top of helmet and top of cage.
I mentioned that very fact G on the e-group discussion. If I were running aero next year I'd have my wing at roll hoop level.

you wait till next season another 50bhp + and me and the car will be lighter!!
can't bloody wait!
Well with another 50+. as you were at the front of A this year.My money is on you taking the "A" title and retaining the overall for next year, you should p*ss it can't bloody wait!

Being very self aware of being a brash (and maybe blabbin') Yorkshireman at times, and one who has on occasion posted on here after being kicked out of a pub You were the one blabbing on another forum

, I figured I'd better go back through my forum threads and look for any forum reference to a 4.7....... Couldn't find one, other than posing a question as to whether a 4.7 AJP is eligible for Modern & Future Classic racing series
Ummm, 4.5 with aero versus 4.7 without aero? For me, neither will make the slightest bit of difference, as I don't plan to be making a Frankel like challenge to the Challenge
As has been said by many failed sports people... "It not about winning; it's about taking part". I doubt I'll be feeling the dirty turbulent air coming off the back of your aero Perry, except when you're lapping me perhaps
Tuscans shouldn't have wings...
But if they did, they would look like this...

This is not a new regulation.5.2.7. Excepting the inclusion of the words '....or for an open car the maximum height of the ROPS...' this regulation was actually in force for the 2012 season but, for some reason, the MSA have taken to highlighting the whole of a changed regulation in red (rather than merely highlighting the text that has changed).

You're right and this was also discussed on the drivers e-group; hence the discussion. Last year the max permitted aero height was the top of the windscreen surround which was the highest point of the bodywork on an open car. A bit more to play wit this year Excepting the inclusion of the words '....or for an open car the maximum height of the ROPS...' this regulation was actually in force for the 2012 season but, for some reason, the MSA have taken to highlighting the whole of a changed regulation in red (rather than merely highlighting the text that has changed).
