New Year = Dakar rally time smile

Is it my imagination or is it starting later this year? Don't they normally go off on New Year's Eve or Day?

I shall be tuning into Eurosports at teatime and bedtime for the daily updates as usual.

I've enjoyed watching the documentary on the Race2Recovery chaps too, so will be hoping they finish.

Who does everyone else favour?

Hello,
yes, it used to start on New Year's Day in Paris (or Arras, Lisbon and so on). This along with 24 Heures du Mans, Baja 1000 and Erzberg is, in my opinion the pinnacle of motorsport.

Just reading "to Dakar and back" by a Canadian privateer motorcyclist - balls the size of Jupiter to try something like the Dakar solo!

Good luck to the Race2Recovery team and I hope Robbie Gordon gets a podium finish too, I get the impression that the Dakar "establishment" don't like that particular North American ;-)

As a proud Saffa I will be supporting De Villiers and the SA Toyota Hilux team, the giant killers of last year.

I'll be following it, have done for the past 20 years.
French national television do an excellent job of covering this event every year, if you can get that (and understand frog speak) it's well worth it! thumbup

I hope the Race2Recovery guys finish and that the McRae Enduro cars do well too...

Be nice to see a Bowler Nemesis make it to the finish line as well.

Eurosport for traditional television, not sure what video coverage there will be on the official website or YouTube.

Eurosport HD (410 on Sky) (412 for the none HD channel) at 10 tonight are running the Race2Recovery documentary on their preparation for the Dakar. Eurosport have run the Road Book program recently on setting the course and they are always running repeats so keep an eye out

Live coverage on Eurosport HD from 6 pm on Sat
stage one highlights programme from 10 pm
same timings each day until they reach Santiago

Have any made it to the start line?

Did you see Laurent Fouquet, the French Tout Terrain manufacturer, has entered for the first time? Be interesting to see how he gets on in a self built/designed car.

Mischa's Dakar tracking site has gone live today.

http://trackingdakar.nl/index.php?stand=S

Takes the raw data from the Dakar site and makes it much easier to filter and track competitors smile

Super excited for the start of this!

I believe it is helpfully entitled "Motorsport" with "Race2Recovery" as the episode name, and no clue as to which episode is which so I had to record about a dozen episodes until I managed to get all 5.
