Just seen this on TouringCarTimes, bit of a blow if true. Explains Nash jumping ship.

Feel sorry for all the lads, losing losing their jobs so max can race at the back of the grid. Sign of the times.

Looks like they haven't bothered to file their accounts for the year ended 31 December 2011 not have they bothered filing their 2012 Annual Return.

Although the article states that Companies House are striking off the company due to apparent inactivity, the actual data on the Copmpanies house website indicates that the directors themselves have applied to have the company struck of.

This is not an automatic process as creditors are entitled to block a Striking Off application if they are owed monies and want to recover some or all of the amounts owed.

I don't agree that it's a 'sign of the times'. It's just another insult to Motorsport inflicted by Grahame Chilton for the sake of is sons' egos, IMO.

Has their ever been less achieved on he track for so much so called investment?

Only glimmer of one is that the elder son won't be on the grid in 2013, if all of Aon's 'investment' is being blown on Max.

Fingers crossed.

I don't see the problem. If you had cash, and kids, you'd fund them too. I would.

Shame for the lads losing their jobs, but nobody's done anything wrong imho.

How do you know?

They've already failed to fulfill their legal duty to file accounts on time.

But had the investment not come from the Chilton family those people wouldn't of had a job on the first place ?

just a shame the team has to close. Everything is set up could be run as a profitable race team maybe not in the WTCC. Guess their is a fair amount of £££ in the assets.

Do you mean "wouldn't have had"?

The team that was Arena was running long before the Chiltons came into it. Who knows what would have happened?

I wouldn't to that extent, if they had so little ability. Even Mansell knew when it had to stop. Chilton clearly doesn't.

And in any case it isn't just his money; it seems little more than corporate irresponsibility to me.

Tom's a curious case. He looked really good at the tail end of 2004, then he got derailed in 2005 by the MG DTM plan going under along with the company. Came back to the BTCC in the middle of that year and did ok too, but since then he's been very average and I'm really not sure why.

They'll maybe find jobs for the Arena boys in the other Carlin teams?

I would not worry Mike Earle has more than enough money to keep the engineers employed and has so many other businesses that keep the cash flow running that I doubt many of them will be looking at jobs elsewhere. He has contracts within F1, within McLaren and lots of work regarding construction in the middle east along with his aircraft simulation stuff.

A shame for touring cars though and Max Chilton wont be on the F1 grid for more than one season.

A profitable race team, no such thing IMHO. Not at that level of the sport. The team just require the rich daddies to pay off the debts each year. The only “profitable” race teams out there are full blown factory efforts. Now that daddy C has moved on Arena is going into hibernation until Mike Earle picks up another wealthy customer/mugg.

To make a small fortune from motorsport it is best to start with a large one, preferably somebody else’s…

It had occurred to me that this may be precisely what Chilton is doing. He has backed them both as far as they can get so far. Tom doesn't look like he is going to get any further with touring cars and the funding to the team seems to have been cut off. Max gets his shot at F1 and see how he performs...

As I have said before - at the rate of spending needed to buy an F1 seat and run a WTCC operation even their family cash pile wouldn't last many years. I'd like to hope that a pragmatic dad has given his kids the chance that they crave but simply isn't prepared to bankrupt himself. I would say that the whole story might indeed actually be evidence that he DOES know where to stop...?

Surely that is just speculation though - unless you know their accountant and are getting information that you shouldn't. People who own/run businesses putting the corporate logo on cars while not drawing significantly from corporate funds surely isn't without precedent? It is cheap publicity, makes the team look more credible running with a big logo slapped on the car and provides a handy tax write off as I understand it. As such, it may well work out to be a win for the company at largely Chilton senior's expense as for all we know AON may not be putting more into it that a chunk of the corporate hospitality budget... ?

Regardless - it'll be interesting to see where they end up. I don't see Tom as someone who would get a paid drive as the results aren't there for whatever my opinion is worth. As an eventual ex-F1 driver, Max may have a life in motorsport after the family funding runs dry though (likely in GTs). That said - we should probably reserve judgement to see how the lad does in his drive before writing him off. Maybe he will surprise and prove most of our assessments of his level of talent to be wrong. I don't see it happening personally, but I would love to be wrong and see another British driver thrive.

Here's a story from Autosport on it: http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/105011

Saying that they've suspended staff because Ford have pulled their tech support. I'm assuming that's the use of their facilities?

And that the Companies House business is unrelated.
