Saw that earlier. More power on exits of corners can only be a good thing!

So is Hamilton as stupid as many suggested when he opted out of McL?

I believe so, yes.

Eta: Why do people keep suggesting that Mercedes will have some sort of advantage when it comes to new engine regs? Renault are alot more successful than Mercedes. Aerodynamics are more important anyhow.

Indeed. The engines will be pretty much the same in design terms, since IIRC the bore, stroke, valves, ports and materials are all specified.

Yes.

Brackley have never produced a title contending car.

The Mercedes engines are going to be built, then the FIA dole them out to the teams in a lottery system. There will be no "special" engines etc. Due to the regs, it is unlikely that we will see any massive difference in performance due to packaging etc.

My understanding is that most teams would like a bespoke engine, one that is designed around their needs. Whilst Mercedes have to supply the engine to others, I think they will be worrying about whether the inlet alves or the ancillaries are in a convenient spot. Other teams will have to design their car around the needs of the engine, Mercedes will have a complete package.

I doubt if this will make a massive difference but 2% is pretty big in F1. Other teams no doubt will be able to catch up in time but time is points.

Mercedes has problems specific to them but then I would assume that goes for most teams. So being able to design the car and the engine is one that the problems.

I think you are right Derek, I am sure there will be an advantage although it probably will only be small. I still don't understand Hamilton's move but there had to be some reassurance that he would have a championship winning car at some point so hopefully the engine is the start. Ultimately, of course, time will tell.

They didn't produce it. It was designed at Leafield and should have been the Super Aguri. That's the reason for no development throughout the season too, they had no real data to work from.

Again; Brackley have never produced a title contending car.

Was it really? Super Aguri only managed 4 races in 2008 so it seems unlikely that they had such a good car developed for 2009.

One of the reasons that Honda where so unsuccessful in F1 was that a lot of the silverware during that period went to Ferrari…

Mind you they did spend a lot of cash on various different teams and who knows what happened where.

Not if they screw the Pirelli tyres after a few laps.

If the tyres hold up, then fuel efficiency will be the determining factor as to who will win the race. Getting the engine maps right will be significant also the combined brain / computing power of the race tacticians.

The driver will only get the glory.

because they spent all of 2008 designing it...

It's been reported on before. I think Scarbs wrote about it, as did Joe's award. wink

Brackley have produced a title contending and championship winning car in Jenson Button with the BrawnGP 2009 car.

It wasn't designed at Brackley.

Has he said aerodynamics will become LESS important in 2014?

Seems unlikely, once the cars run out of electricity they'll have less than 600hp.

I really want to hear one of the new generation engines. Anything on the net yet? A quick Google suggests no.
