"Time Attack" - an MSA recognised discipline?
Discussion
Hi,
I remember a few years ago there being a flurry of press releases telling us that "Time Attack" had been anointed by the MSA.
In order to confirm this, I had a wee look but can't find anything obvious on the MSA webite or, indeed, the "Time Attack" website either.
I'd be grateful if someone could clarify this for me.
Cheers,
Eric

I can confirm Time Attack is run under MSA permit and the organising club is Club Time Attack.
Regards, Alec (CoC for TA).
Curiously, the regulations haven't made it into the blue book yet, nor does there seem to be any explanation of licensing (competition or officials).Regards, Alec (CoC for TA).
I remember reading a draft back when TA first approached the MSA (few years now, I think), but it seems to be taking its time getting into print.

No regulations for a specific championship are in the Blue Book. MSA approved championship regulations are all published separately, usually on the series or organising clubs website.
Yes, ok, but the championships are listed in 46 and I'm not seeing any mention of TA.Further, looking through the specific discipline regulations (201 - 371) I can see no mention of TA.
Indeed, a search of the MSA site only yeilds one return - a list of clubs in the "Association of South Eastern Motor Clubs" ("Club Time Attack" being one).
Seems weird, don't you think?
Cheers,
Eric

Not at all, those are national not club championships like Time Attack. That is a list of championships with British in the name, which is controlled by the MSA.Further, looking through the specific discipline regulations (201 - 371) I can see no mention of TA.

OK, fine, so why no apparent mention in the specific discipline regulations?
Surprised nobody seems to know.

All the basic rules governing participation in motor sport events in Britain are contained in this ‘Blue Book’. To enjoy the sport to the full, Organisers, Competitors and Officials should ensure they are familiar with the regulations relevant to their own particular discipline.
I'm sure there's a straightforward answer; like it's still in a consultation period so won't appear in the BB until ratified ... or something.Surprised nobody seems to know.

Just read the Time Attack regulations.
Time Attack is a Speed Championship, hence why in some of the lower classes it's possible to compete with a Non-race National B. However, as all of the rounds are on a closed circuit and timing done on flying laps rather than from a standing start it falls under the Specific Regulations for Circuit Racing.
I would guess that the reason for not having a Specific Regulation section in the Blue Book for 'Time Attack' type events is that it would be largely redundant, as there is only one championship in the country of this type and that is already adequately covered under the current regulations.
