Are race cars too loud??

Hello,
I am a student from the University of Bath,
The following link is a questionnaire in aid of my engineering dissertation, titled "Can exhaust noise be reduced without restricting engine power?". The outcome of this paper could lead to cars being made faster and quieter, this will allow more racing to take place at circuits with strict noise restrictions. Your input is therefore important so please answer questions as honestly as possible. All answers and comments are anomalous.

Not so ridiculous. Consider the local track (Castle Combe) - the noise restrictions there have severely limited the type of cars that can race there. In a choice between quiet racing and no racing I would go for quiet racing. Ridiculous idea tbh.

Haven't heard of any classes not running because of noise. The restriction is 110db anyway, it's more the fact the track is small and can't support the bigger/louder events.
British GT's stopped going there a few years ago specifically because of the noise restrictions - maybe other series too, but definately the GT's.Kim

Thruxton is limited to something silly like 14 race or 'noisy' days a year IIRC, Croft similarly is facing noise issues, along with Mallory Park, Donnington, Silverstone even has a strict curfue for running cars.. Its got nothing to do with the size of the circuit and its facilitiesNoise is starting to become a serious issue on Road Rallies. The problem seems to be the varied results which you get from the 2M test, a car can pass it with flying colours one day and fail miserably the next.
We might not like it, but motorsport needs to take the issue seriously if it's to survive in a world dominated by nimbys and greenies.

As a longtime competitor and fan of motorsport i would hate to see cars get quieter. People who buy houses near motorracing facilities needs to understand that it will be loud and if they don't like it please buy a house elsewhere. The thought of quiet racing cars sounds incredibly boring to me.
Perhaps it would mean more track action for noise limited tracks, but its not track action that i would wish to watch or participate in.

The day racing goes "quiet" or all electric, will be the day i stop going to watch it.
