Just heard that Howard, owner of Castle Combe circuit, died last weekend. Very sad. I live a mile from the circuit, hope it continues to thrive as he effectively rescued it from closure.

Indeed very sad.

What he has done with the circuit is nothing short of remarkable.

Rumours are now flying though about who is going to buy the circuit if the family decide to sell it.

Last I heard, Jonathan Palmer was having a look in due to the increasing number of msvr races taking place there. No idea how true that is though.

JP would be good IMHO, he does appear to know what he's doing. If only I had a few million knocking around...

That is sad news. Really enjoyed spending time with him and the team at CC when I raced in their series 2000-2005. Nice family too, so my thoughts are with them.

I hope it stays with the family and JP gets his.hands nowhere near it.

CC has it's own character and it's own characters. The worst thing that could happen would be for the circuit to become another black red and white identikit. The circuit needs some investment (surfacing, anyone) but.it is probably the only profitable race circuit in the UK despite not having any big championships visit. It has a large local fanbase that for a local clubbie meeting shows up places like silverstone. The local championships are always oversubscribed, indeed in the last few years they started another championship which has also been successful.


The last thing that circuit needs is JP stomping around firing fks at people for doing their jobs.

Very sad news, Howard was certainly one of the good guys.
