Would a separate Thread for F1 betting be preferable?
Discussion
I love an occasioanl flutter. I've made no secret here on PH that I like the occasional wager. Nice to win a few quid certainly but, even nicer to be right as well as slightly richer.
So how about a separate thread where the eagle eyed can highlight good opportunities and value.
For instance, some on-line bookies on the first race are betting 5-1 both Alonso and Button for the win down under with 1/5th odds a place 1-2-3. so, even money if yer man makes a podiun without the win.
That same bookie is offering 5/4 against ( 1.25 to 1 ) A PODIUM.
So if you fancy an each way bet on somebody like those two fans' favourites, best to have a single win bet instead of a simple each way one plus, a separate PODIUM bet @ 5-4 ... better value by far. If yer man only... only ? ... manages 2nd or 3rd, you will show a small profit betting win only plus podium. You will merely break level if having an each way bet on yer man @ 1/5th the odds a place.
I have seen some other value bets and will keep an eye on things all through the season as I always do and give 'heads up' if I spot something unusual. Contrary to popular belief, the bookies do not always win and when they get things wrong, best to move quickly.
So, what do others think or when you see some value, keep it to yourself .. there are folks like that ... the rascals ...

I don't like, and have no interest in the gambling side of motorsport, so maybe it could be moved elsewhere, maybe to a gambling section.
Gambling and sport enthusiasts should always be separated, as they don't mix well.
Tell that to the 1000s who attend the Cheltenham Festival next week... Gambling and sport enthusiasts should always be separated, as they don't mix well.

Horse racing is not a sport in my view.
Where are the engines.

There are many more who do not see Motor Racing ..... as a sport.

Disruptive? How so?
Quite obviously it disrupts the multiplicity of Alonso is the greatest and better than Hamilton type disruptive exchanges of views on the F1 threads...
... Glad to say that there is sufficient interest so as requested by others in past seasons, I will set up an "official" non-disruptive (
) separate thread for those who do care about such things before each F1 event during the season. That is unless those who run this site see things differently and decide otherwise.
I love to hear the success stories here like the PHer ( and shrewd judge ) who had a substantial return backing Alonso in his "dog" car when he won at 66-1 and when Button wins at long odds. Bring it on. That's my kind of 'disruption' ...

Certainly a thread concerning betting and odds being offered , would be a good idea. It keeps the subject in one place, as against multiple threads containing the subject.
That way those that are interested in such can visit and read, those not interested ,don't have their time wasted by it.
I rarely bet myself, basically because I enjoy it too much, but each to their own.

Oh dear looks like thee and me and a very few others like a flutter. Think its a great idea myself. Won a fortune on Jenson before the bookies became wise to him.So how about a separate thread where the eagle eyed can highlight good opportunities and value.

Yes, I've done quite well on Jenson Button. Not just his race wins at long odds, but, because of his qualifying form, in a match with his "racer" team mate, Button would be at much longer more attractive odds to finish in front of Hamilton ... in the race. That has also been productive.
Button v. Hamilton match odds THIS season has seen that odds situation reversed. So, if the Mercedes is a better race package THIS season ....

Get my "drift" or do you have an excess of understeer ...

I certainly don't have a problem with the betting threads either way, if you want a separate thread then go ahead, if you wish to drop the betting posts into the main threads you are free to do that too.I would like to see a separate thread for betting tbh, and I often find that the betting talk can disrupt a thread.
For some reason I have never had any interest whatsoever in trying to predict a race - I don't think I see the point - but I think there should be a place for those who do like to do so.

Plenty of folks give predictions before a race. The only difference being the odds attached. For some reason I have never had any interest whatsoever in trying to predict a race - I don't think I see the point - but I think there should be a place for those who do like to do so.
