Hmm.
I quite like his driving - but not sure he has got the hang of the "simpler" lifestyle thing at Mercedes...

Asked why he had painted it red, he replied: "Because every airport I go to every plane is boring white or with this really sad brown stripe down the side. What were they thinking? If you are going to spend that much money on a plane, it doesn't cost much to get a paint job. So I did it properly, just as when I buy a car. I don't just buy a car off the lot, I like to design it and make it mine. I think it is the nicest plane
"I will die if [Roscoe] does a turd in my plane. I will have to get the whole plane changed. I have been renting planes for some time and now I can hop from one place to the other without complications. When you go to Heathrow, for example, it can be quite manic. People notice you and you don't always want to be seen. You want a low profile."

Personally I'm much less tribal on my both driver and team allegiance these days. They are all pretty amazing so I tend to just enjoy the racing. LH has some devastatingly, unbeatable weekends that are a joy to watch - when you think Senna has been reincarnated, and other weekends where you wonder where his head is at.
Interviews like this make me wonder if he is still being ill advised by his management company. A British Bulldog? No coincidence of branding, I'm sure. Not certain it will be allowed into many countries due to disease controls...

Lewis Hamilton wilfully misrepresented by the media, shocking... That interview is full of judgement about his choices, it's rather strange. I don't see anything inconsistent with buying a plane and saying you want to keep a low profile. In fact hamilton even explains how it will help. And the the journalist implies that the colour of the plane is attention seeking? Err....
The newspapers essentially like to point out his differences because he has different interests and social circles than the f1 journalists... Meanwhile they ignore or heap praise, deserved or otherwise, on the other British drivers, particularly the one that is all matey with them and that their granny likes.
what other F1 driver would have inferences drawn about personality traits from the colour of his aeroplane?

Looks like he could. Aircraft is a Bombardier and has a range of just under 4000 miles. Greater than London/NY (approx 3500 miles}. They could always fly via Iceland, mind. I'm pretty sure he can't get to the US in it though from LHR, well maybe the north east coast but not too far.

Got a car dog cage for him, he's got pretty good at balancing around corners (he has to be good) but I suspect that a race might be a bit much for him! Plus the boot is a bit of a dangerous place in BTCC!
I don't know why people put so much stock in what the media report. The F1 circus is about to kick off again, editors are desperate to fill column inches with F1 news when there is very little to report before qualifying, so lots of opinion pieces are produced.
Hamilton gets more than most as he's the most hyped driver and that "status" works both ways. Image/expectation is inflated, analysis/opinion is also inflated. I hope he does well at Mercedes and is happy there as that's when he seems to produce his best driving, which adds to the F1 racing spectacle - a good thing in my opinion.
