Practice tyres - what and where from please?

Gentlemen, I've just ordered a set of new race slicks from JR (ouch!), but what cheaper slicks and wets (or inters?) options do you guys use for your practice/testing/trackdays etc? New or part worn suggestions please as I expect I'll be practicing on some abrasive airfield circuits. Thanks chaps

That's a point. Could I get the exact size please for 18". The car's 250 miles away at the moment so can't check myself. Cheers.

i have some reasonable testing slix in store which i dought i will be using as planned this year because i start racing in two weeks and i won't have time to test now.I would sell you a few at £50 a corner but the carrage will be a bugger from devon i susspect.you probably need to find some kind soul up your way to part with some or if a lorry is going up the m5 to your neck of the woods.not been funny but you could put a set of 888's on and do loads of testing for the money £790 a set if i remember,me and andy were doing 53's round brands last year on 888's that had already done two 40min races.just a thought to get you some seat time but slix will give you more stickiness if you could get them to temp in this weather.

to be brutally honest its a waste of time practising on old, fecked or different tyres to what you'll be racing on. you can't do any meaningful testing on old tyres, as as soon as you bolt a new set on the car will be different. They will handle very differently and more unpredictably and give you a higher chance of binning it.

bedding the car in and doing basic systems testing is fair enough but if you want to do setup your going to have to bite the bullet and buy some tyres...If you set a car up on old tyres then bolt new ones on it will not behave as your expecting it.

this is coming from someone who uses tyres well past their sell by date, and I know how much it hurts the lap times..


250/640 r18's are what you want..
