Even though Seb didn't win the race yesterday I couldn't help but think are we heading for another Schumacher era all over again?

I hope not!

Vettel is open enough to be likeable though.

Schumacher (at least until he drove for mercedes)was not.

I like Vettel. And Adrian Newey is one of the very best.

It won't last forever though!

What are you gibbering about?

I think the fact that we had no certainty over who would win that race until the closing laps?

- or indeed last year, where it came down to the wire - is a good indicator that we are in anything but the Schumacher type era of domination.

Gibbering? Are you feeling ok?

It was an observation. Did you follow F1 in the Schumacher Days? If you did like me you won't want a repeat of the that!

I did, been following since 84.

I agree that we don't want to see it again, I just can't see anything last season or this season that reminded me of the Ferrari whitewash era...

Although Seb has won the last 3, only one was a dominating season. The other 2 were very much battles to the end, pretty much. Far from the Schumey era.

I'd have no problems about returning to the Schumacher era.

It's the late 80s-early 90s McLaren era I'd hate to live through again.

Quite.

If the next few seasons a decided anywhere near as close as last season was....I wouldn't care if Vettel won them all! At least it would have gone to the wire each time, and been nail biting each time.

That was what the Schumacher era lacked.

Not even slightly, OK, maybe a bit, but it' just not the same IMHO.

Back in the dark days of the Schumacher years (just my opinion) not only was MS in a different league to everyone else, his team, his sponsors and the FIA would move heaven and earth to ensure he stayed there.

The cars were so advanced that they could do whole races on a set of tyres if only they were allowed and every driver aid science could offer to stop them ever getting out of shape ever, they could complete lap, after lap after lap perfectly, the only thing they couldn't do was drive within 20 car lengths of the one in front.

The best thing about F1 in that era was you could sleep off a hangover to it, honestly, watch the start and the end and you saw the whole thing, overtaking was laughable, a single overtake that didn't involve a pit-stop or sick car was earth shattering news.

Yes 'Seb' has won three on the bounce, but there's nothing like the dominance and it could just have easily been just the one.

I think Alonso will give him a good run this year with a better car that he now has, the merc might get better on its tires, that puts LH in the mix, then you have Lotus of course with Kimi, looking better then last year so far

Late 80's where Senna and Prost were at eachothers throats for championships?

Early 90's where Senna was pulling off some great battles with the extremely advanced Renault William's cars and on occasions beating them?

Why did you not enjoy that era?

Entirely absurd thread.

The reason that the "Schumacher era" to many, was so toxic, is because the Stain was a cheat, the antics of Fiat were not entirely pleasant either.

The simple fact remains, that Herr Vettel, is by no menas a cheat, thus the paralells are invalid.

Whilst Seb is not ny own personal first choice for champ, its no reason to decry brilliant performances from a brilliant driver, supported of course by a inventive, competetive team, who display little of the histrionics displayed by Fiat during the stain era, and which they appear to have retained to a certain extent, if the rather nasty little allegations they made post the Brazil GP last year, are anything to go by.

I'm not sure I agree.

I was/am a big fan of Schumacher and even I found it got a bit/very boring, I ended up looking at the midfield more.

Hmm. I doubt you can prove that Seb has not cheated and never run in an illegal car. Fact is most of the ex WCs on the grid are proven cheats and there is no reason to think he is any different.

Because with every race (or so it seemed) being won by a McLaren there was no point in watching.
Plus having to see that smug Ron Dennis all the time.

For all his faults, Schumacher was an outstanding driver but his domination was tinged with the belief that not all was legit - beliefs we now know to be true - traction and launch control on the Benetton, special Bridgestones on the Ferrari and the good old Ferrari International Assistance support, etc so some of the domination wasn't true refection of what was what at the time.

Today, I do think F1 is far more transparent (though not totally and I'm not saying it's totally squeaky clean) at the Red Bull is a truer reflection of design and engineering excellence, and thus so too is Vettel so the success if a little more palatable.

Also, we are not seeing - or at least not seen yet - the kind if week in week out dominance that Ferrari had ten years ago.

If you read Andrew Benson's blog, he made a comment like that to Button, who replied with something along the lines of "But have you seen his tyres? They're knackered."
