After Googling Indycar 2013, I'm never going to complain about the aesthetics of F1 cars again.

How did they end up making them so ugly / awkward looking?

The oval track version is better, but I'd agree they're not exactly lookers.

The St Pete track is not bad and if the weather holds it should be quite a race. Sadly the IZOD Indy Car Championship is in a bit of a mess, bad promotion nationally, a lack of engine choices only Honda and Chevy, a I agree cars that dont look as exciting as they should. However there are some good drivers on the grid and I like a mixture of street circuits, ovals and traditional tracks. The TV coverage is not so bad either.

Anyone managed to get a deal for ESPN? I have Sky just now but another £10 per month just for Indycar is hard to swallow. I will phone after lunch and try for a discount.

Be careful re ESPN. As of June I think it is, two of its channels plus 'select' content become BT Sport and it would be useful to know when you can cancel any subscription. ESPN Classic will vanish.

Agreed - a pretty much spec series, run by a bunch of incompetents, driven by (with one or two exceptions) has-beens, journeymen and amateurs with rich parents - often comedic on street circuits - downright dangerous on speedways. The talent gap on the track is frankly terrifying.

I think the series is slowly getting back on its feet, but would agree it has been a political shambles in recent years. Shocking organisation, on-track shambles and all manner of behind the scenes squabbling. Like F1 of old

Driver quality is starting to pick up again, finally, with the likes of Bourdais, Pagenaud and up and comers like Vautier. Certainly the strongest it has been in a good while. I think people have rose tinted spectacles to a degree, as CART/Champcar as was had its share of has-beens and "never weres". Memories of Hiro Matsusta being a mobile chicane during the alleged CART glory years spring to mind.
