F1 Aero Testing Duxford

There's a test planned for Wednesday 1 May has anyone ever been to one? Are they worth it and do you get to see much?

The weather is going to be okay so the unnamed team should be running but it's a fair distance for me to travel so I'm unsure if its worth it.

I decided to go and was surprised at how close you could get. The team was Force India which I was a bit disappointed given it isn’t the most photogenic car and Lotus were apparently there the Friday before (26 April).

I was there from 10-4 and only saw five runs but I might have missed a couple when looking round the IWM. They lost a couple of hours with a breakdown it looked like an engine fail but it was at the other end of the runway so hard to see through the heat-haze even with binoculars.

Yes, I've been to one a couple of years ago when Renault were doing their straight-line testing, with Romain Grosjean on driving duties. As you say, you can get really close.

Of course, if you know someone who works at Duxford and ask them nicely, they may have a word with the team's security people and then you can get even closer...

I was also at the Marussia test on that fateful day when Maria de Villota had her accident. I arrived about 10 minutes after the crash.

I'd recommend it. The local council have approved more test days on May 15, June 19 and August 28.

I happen to work just over the roundabout to the airfield so I get hear them all day anyway, do sometimes pop over in my lunch break for 5-10 minutes.

I went to the last Force India test and was very disappointed that you couldn't see more. There was very little running (2 x 2 laps) while I was there. The tents are arranged so you can't see anything while they are in there or out in front of them.

The IWM charge £17.50 to get in and if you are only there to see the cars it is a bit of waste of cash.
I know that some of the info/aero is rather sensitive to the teams but it would be good for fans attending to be able to see more of what is happening.

My old man texted me yesterday to say that Force India Academy transporters had just rolled into Duxford. He was obviously having a boys' day out.

Mrs sent me a text this morning as she has a meeting over that way and heard them as she arrived. Just ent me a pic but sadly only of the inside of a hanger - have asked for pics of F1 cars
