British F3/GT Silverstone

Unless i'm being a complete idiot (which is entirely possible) I can't see a thread about British GT this weekend, which is surprising.
The 3 hour GT headline was great, great racing and drama throughout made the 3 hours fly by. The F3's weren't as good as they were in the early 2000's still but there was some good driving, VW second race was great, really close at the front and a 9 car train for the lead for most of the race and the final Ginetta race was equally as good. Also, my oh my the mercedes GT3 and BMW z4 GT3 are two of the best sounding cars i've ever heard!

It was a great day and surely one of the most expensive grids gathered for a domestic series. Loved the sound of the Mercs as well.

All those cars were there (except the M3), but in different liveries. For example there was a Demon Tweeks 911 at Oulton but a Demon Tweeks SLS in your pics.
The no. 18 Ferrari was. The Demon Tweeks Mercedes and Porsche were both at both races, but the Mercedes has a more obvious livery now! The cars with no 40x are from the European GT4 championship which joined the grid at this round.All those cars were there (except the M3), but in different liveries. I was certain there would be a big thread on this aswell. It was a superb 3 hours of racing. A grid of 47 cars which included racing versions of many of the most desirable road cars available, going at it hammer and tong.
To see them all charging through Copse for the first time with a 458 Ferrari doing a 360 in the middle of it all (and getting away with it untouched!) was epic. The 3 hour format is great as it gives you time to view from various parts of the circuit.
This is the type of racing I will pay to go and watch despite it being live on television. The noise alone was worth the entry fee
The GT4 category was also very entertaining. The M3 and 911 battle was great.
Overall, it was 10x the entertainment compared with the half pace procession that was Monaco that we struggled to stay awake through later that evening.
Very interesting race. With safety cars and pit stop strategy, it was actually pretty unpredictable, though Bryant was looking determined to win. He was absolutely merciless with the traffic.
Highlight of the whole three hours, for me, though was the Simonsen / Bobbi 458 battle during the middle of the race. Absolutely epic from the pair of them. Such a shame the race unravelled for Jay Palmer after the pit stops.
Just printed out the timetable for Blancpain. AutoGP and FR2.0 NEC to enjoy as well. Should be an absolute cracker!

I agree (as usual Ahonen), and many don't consider anything outside of F1 to be racing. Ironically, the actual RACING is far better in many series.pj17 said:

Seems like everyone enjoyed it as much as I did and crackin' weather to boot.
My first GT3 race I've attended but certainly won't be the last. The variety of races was fantastic and I walked the entire circuit watching from various vantage points.
I'd recommend the end of the International Straight / into Abbey. I couldn't believe that a car could corner that fast and flat....and the 'barp' of that SLS V8
....that should come free on the NHS.
Also enjoyed the B4525 from the M40, highly entertaining (and empty !). Not enjoyed a road as much since....well...since the day before in Snowdonia

Was even better when you didn't have all the limits on it and could really have a proper, all tweeked up, go at the Esses just before the A43 
BGT is cracking this year and it was a real blinder of a race, 3 hours that even I and a number of other old hands were buzzing about at the end of the day.
Snetterton is next up on the weekend before LM - it's a treck from Brum (you should do it in about 3 hours at worst though) and really worth while. Squat down as low as you can on the outside of Coram with the cars coming towards you and you really start to understand just how serious these cars and drivers are.

they are both driven by Minshaw brothers, sons of the owner of Demon Tweeks. Hence a lot of my cash is paying for their drives! Not that I mind, better off being spent that way then going to the tax man.All those cars were there (except the M3), but in different liveries. I go down to Buckingham a few times a year and always use that and the Dadford Road to get to and from the M40. Brilliant road. 
Just catching up on the recordings of the races from Sunday, some good entertaining racing from the GTs and VWs.

Took my dad down there. Sadly we were only in his 335i rather than one of our more entertaining cars. Still an amazing road though. chevronb37 said:

Be careful after the last speed camera heading back towards the M40. I've seen a mobile scamera unit parked up on the verge - just before the 40 limit ends.(Luckily on that day I was behind Doris in her Micra !)
