Marshal dies at Canadian GP after accident involving recovery truck
A 38-year-old marshal was killed at the end of the Canadian Grand Prix after being hit by a recovery truck.
The accident happened while Esteban Gutierrez's stricken Sauber was being removed from the Montreal circuit.
The International Automobile Federation said the man, who has yet to be named, had stumbled after dropping his radio.
The FIA said the marshal stumbled while attempting to pick up his radio as workers used a mobile crane to lift Gutierrez's car and return it to the pits.
He was run over by the recovery vehicle, whose driver could not see him, added the FIA.
Medics stabilised the victim at the track before he was airlifted to hospital where he later died.

I've spent a day on the other side of the fence with the guys in orange, and honestly they put their lives in danger and give up their free time for the love of the sport. Huge respect, and tradegies like this should never be forgotten.

That is terrible news. Not even a mention in my newspaper this morning.
During Sky F1 broadcast Martin Brundle was expressing concern that the stricken car even needed moving. Was only a few laps to the end, and unlikely to have been hit, and it is was the barrier could have absorbed the impact.

Reason Martin Brundle hates those cranes is because he nearly hit one when he was driving.

I adore marshaling, for any car fan it is one of the best hobbies you can have. There are times when it has made me s
t myself, however we are repeatedly told that it is a dangerous hobby and are very well trained. What the killed the marshal seems to be a simple mistake and an accident. Guiding a car during a full lift is something I and many other marshals do frequently, sadly it all went very wrong this time.
My thoughts are with his friends and family

“He was a simple guy. Mark was not a Formula 1 fan, he was THE Formula 1 fan. He has been attending the events since the early eighties and has been working as a marshal since 2003. Working at the F1 Canadian GP in Montreal was the highlight of his year and his dream come true." Mark Robinson, described by a close family friend.
We cannot be there today for Mark's memorial, but here in Enstone we are all taking time to remember him and everything that he and fellow marshals have done for our sport.
