At the time of his death, Hunt was writing Grand Prix race reports for the Daily Telegraph, each Tuesday following a race. His last one (Canadian GP 93) was published on Tuesday 15th June 1993. He died later that day.
I kept my copy of that last report (somewhat yellowed, after 20 years), as a memento of a fascinating character.
I'll try scanning it in if anybody wants to see it.

ETA: Hmmm. It's a bit difficult to read on this thread, with the small font-size of the newspaper. Might be worth saving the 3 images to your own PC Pictures section, then zoom up a bit.

That seems to work well enough, if you put your reading glasses on.Comparing the images saved from the thread with the originals from my scanning, it's remarkable how much sharpness is lost in the process of uploading a picture onto PH (the number of MB seems to be reduced by about 50%).
Gone but never forgotten.

I can just imagine Messrs Hunt & Sheene 'somewhere up there' having a Marlboro, a couple of beers & generally creating havoc.
Pretty much as they did when they were both with us.
Sadly they don't make them like that anymore.

It was such a shame when he died. I always loved his commentary, having been slightly too young to remember him as a driver. Phrases like "hole in the air" and "he's having a look" became etched in my brain from an early age.
It never really occurred to me that he was only 45 when he died. Somehow I always thought he was in his mid 50s, but of course he was still pretty young when he retired from driving.
Damn you, James, for dying and leaving us with Jonathan bloody Palmer as your replacement!
