The later additions of the Becketts/Maggotts left-right-left-right, the drop down into Vale, and the Priory/Brooklands/Luffield complex (and now the new Farm/Village complex) were all interesting in their own right, but somehow I felt that the 'purity' (right word?) of the classic version had been lost.

Just to remind ourselves of the context, 1985 was Mansell's first year at Williams, and he had yet to take his first win (Euro GP at Brands Hatch towards the end of the season), Senna had already notched up his first ever win earlier that season in his Lotus (Estoril in the rain), Frank Williams had not yet had his accident (the following March) and Lauda (McLaren) was in his final season.
In this British race, Keke retired with exhaust problems after 21 laps, Mansell had succumbed to clutch failure 4 laps earlier and Prost took the win (and fastest lap of 151mph) for McLaren, from Alboreto (Ferrari) and Laffite (Ligier).
Prost would end the season with the first of his 4 championships, having lost it to Lauda the previous season by 1/2 a point.

Also the engine in Keke's car was on the verge of self destruction.
If you look very closely at photo's & video of the lap in question you can just about see a very fine plume of dark smoke exiting the exhausts.
Another lap at full power would probably have blown the engine to pieces.
Next to Senna's opening lap at Donington & Mansell's lap when he made Pickwit look stupid at Silverstone i would rate Keke's lap as the best single lap of racing i have ever seen.
