Interesting, it'll be nice to have another circuit. Is it me or does £280m seem quite high? Consider that COTA in Texas was built for about the same, and that's not only larger but also FIA Grade 1...

I've seen that interpreted as providing 500 jobs during construction.
Well, yes, sort of, thats 500 FTE days of employment per annum each year for 8 years.
(unless I'm missing something obvious to those in the construction/planning business)
I'd hope to get that out of 3 full time employees.

We'll have gone all electric by then.

least 4,000 job years (construction and non construction) are created over
the 8-year total, with the majority (80%) of these being front-loaded into the
first 2 years of the project. This suggests around 1,600 jobs for the first two
years, falling to around 130 on average for the remaining 6 years of the
building programme. Overall this equates to the 8-year average
employment of 500 predicted in the documents assessed in stage 1.

Again the claim is for 750 public facing jobs on site (albeit some seasonal and part time)
Is that 700 for two weekends IF they get the BTCC/Superbikes and 40 part timers to help run the business (whatever that may be) the other 361 days a year supporting the 10 full timers?

estimated footprint of 8,856sqm and gross floor area of 26,568sqm spread
over 3 storeys. The pit building would be a maximum height of 16m.

approximately 6.5m wide and 16-18m deep. To ensure that competing
teams are able to access the pit garages the lower storey of the pit building
will be taller.
For comparison the COTA in Austin has 34 pit garages of that size (USA measures them as 60' by 20')
& the length of Silverstone's Wing is given as 350 m (unable to find total footprint, but it would have to be 25m wide to match the planned CoW)

Because it'll never get an F1 race. Portimao is F1 spec apparently. I've yet to hear about the Portuguese Grand Prix.Silverstone has a lengthy contract, the history, and is central to a lot of the country and teams.
Much better to put the money into making it an interesting circuit people want to drive, with good facilities.
I can see why there are some on here sceptical of the success of this project, but shouldn't we all be getting behind it?
All the headlines are usually about circuits threatened with closure from noise or environmental complaints so if there is even the remotest chance of one being opened in my opinion we should all be rejoicing about it and offering our full support!

Why?The NIMBYs will have it neutered before the first race has been run without a change in the law and if the law is changed the competition will also be able to alter how they work and so provide more competition.
It is not looking like the easiest site in the World to get to. Trying to get London centric people to Silverstone is bad enough, try getting them to Wales...

Just been looking a little closer at the scale of this, I know the area, my family grew up there.
BBC are reporting the size of the area for redevelopment is 830 acres, to put that into perspective Silverstone is about 450 acres. Even if half the development is for the 'Technology park' thats is still a substantial area for a racetrack
With regards to neighbours, I think there is a farm nearby, but the main housing estate is the far side of the industrial estate that already sits there, noise shouldn't be a problem...
Wildlife? nothing but sheep up there, no trees, just grass.
I'm hoping and looking forward to final permission being granted

Great news just 10 minutes from my house. As for getting to the track then the heads of valley road is being widened so direct quick access from the m50/a48 road straight to the track. From the m4 well the a470 is a dual carriage way from Cardiff to the heads if valley road and there are several trunk roads coming of from Newport-risca-newbridge-the track and also another main road link going past Cwmbran.
So for getting to the circuit not problems at all.
Very little residents near by the area is just brown field site with sheep on there so complaints shouldn't be a concern and with the prospects being very poor in that part of wales every job is welcome.
As for the money it's not just a race track it will include a industrial estate for bases for race teams, companies etc so plenty of opportunity for jobs. I can't really see a downside to this plus for once a proper track in wales that can support top line series.
