racing brake pads

Just about to invest in a new set of pads for the race car and looking for some feedback from guys who have tried various pads on their cars.
My cars is FWD, 300+bhp and 1000kgs with 305mm ap racing cp5200's, and is to be used at knockhill mainly so heavy heavy braking on the last corner from 130 - 30 mph.
Would be good if I could hear from people who have tried and tested various pads rather than just telling me they have used one type of pad and its superb!
Common choices seem to be
Ferodo ds3000 (cheap but heard they chew discs in a couple of meetings)
Carbon Lorraine (expensive but heard the last forever)
Hawk (in the car just now and are crap)
Mintex (used to have 1144's and never had a problem with them but the car was only doing trackdays and had less power so no real comparison)
Any info would be great!

Carborn Lorraine gets my vote (rc6 for heavier car or rc5+ for lighter car) I had rc6 on impreza. Awesome!
I had tried a few pads like ebc ndx blue, orange, ds2500, mintex.
The cl do chew discs a bit but yes the pad life is quiet impressive or you could go for the endurance version which will last ages. Bit dusty and squeaky at low speed stop/start traffic etc. but you will get some downfalls in a race pad. Most manufactors that list a pad as a race pad talk rubbish and that's what I went on when trying pads, even went with a 335 brake kit.
The cl rc6 won it for me, less effort to braking at stop very well, never overheat or fade as they don't leave brake deposits on discs like most pads would and create brake judder, cl are a metallic type compound so will never fade your brakes as experienced before with other pads.
Carbotech are of a similar league if intrested too xp8 for a light car and 10s for the heavier car.

When I was tracking the GT3 around knockhill I (alongside most of the Porsche guys) ended up with Pagid RS4-4 Orange. They did eat discs a bit, but they were the only pads which really took the punishment. I also tried Performance Friction and a few other pads (EBC - hahahhahahaha) but kept coming back to the pagid. Most of the guys with GT3s are now running Pagid RS29 Yellow which seem to be a great all-round pad. Expensive, but worth the money - there's a reason a lot of endurance racing teams use these.
we run a bmw 1 series endurance car. 1100-1150kg depending on trim and circa 250bhp with the new engine.
we used endless pads in this year's dubai 24hr race. on the old pads [ferodo ds3000 iirc] we were changing pads every 8 hrs. the endless pads lasted the full race, did a 300km endurance event, a couple of trackdays and a double header sprint race before they gave up the ghost. all drivers were very impressed.
they were expensive, but we'll definitely be using them again at barcelona in september.

The CL delamination problem is only ever on cars that have been used on road and through a nasty winter.
Been as they are a fully sintered pad they are porous, absorb water and salt, get left on the drive in sub-zero temps and you can guess the rest...
This is why ALL race pad manufacturers say not for road use on the box.
If you are going to use race pads on the road, then use a dollop of common sense too.
I use CL RC6E on my 600bhp TVR/LS, this is the endurance compound, so the equivalent to Pagid RS29, anyone who ever joins me for a trackday stint cant believe how they are left hanging weightless in the harness! i use slicks too as its cheaper to do so.
I am testing regularly with teams, the only problem i have ever had when back to backing RS29 to RC6E is the fact that RC6E was TOO good for the ABS system.
We have to do this with Porsches too, RC8 over powers the ABS, but Sebastien Loeb does not do too bad on this compound.
CL are now the front runners in the big cars E-types/Lola T70/GT40/Cobra etc in the Masters series, and these cars are the toughest thing in the paddock to brake, 400-500bhp and STANDARD 60's brakes, these really show who makes a great pad, in terms of longevity and bite as the pads are comically small.

the CL pad disintegration issue has been widespread, and to blame it on road use is laughable when you consider the target market for these has been the fast road/trackday market.
I have never seen another (quality) make of pads do this before, Mintex/Padgid/Ferrodo/PF/etc have all managed to make pads for years without this kind of thing happening.
considering that brakes are a primary safety item, I know I will never use/recommend them on this issue alone...
My experience with other pads is nil, however I'm currently running Carbotech XP10's all round.
A current Porsche GT3 Cup driver had a go in my car to give me some advice around the track on how to hussle the car round and the very first thing he said after testing the brakes would test the swear filter's knowledge of German swear words but the second thing he said was "good brakes, very good brakes!" Quite a high acolade from a very serious and experienced German car racer.

In most cases it's because race pads have different friction levels & fade characteristics to OE pads & therefore don't conform to ECE Regulation 90. It's illegal to sell non-R90 friction materials for road use.Dave Brand said:
