Interesting

Pirelli are likely to ask for wider tyres from 2014 on safety grounds.

The new engines + ERS is now expected to develop MORE power (and more torque as originally expected) than the current V8s and Pirelli are concerned the current tyre isn't up to it.

Aren't the tyres the same width as when we had looking towards 1000BHP in qually trim not so long ago?

It's the tyre supplier that isn't up to it it think

exactly.

(and where does this 'more power' from the 2014 engines come from?)

It'll be the sudden lump torque from the new engines the tyres may not like.

Of course that totally depends on the mapping... So sounds like b/s from Pirelli to me.

Sizes and shapes of tyres are taken into account for aero, so the teams wouldn't want a change like that now for next year. They weren't happy about using last years tyres after Silverstone because the sidewalls are a different shape, a whole new size of tyre announced now would make Newey, Brawn & co actually explode. hehe

No the FIA doing a deal with Michelin for 360/710-18 tyres would make Newey, Brawn and co actually explode simultaneously. biggrin
Not only would it screw up the aero but also the damping.
