Mercedes World Brooklands - exploded Mercedes F1 car.
Discussion
Attended a wedding near Brooklands last weekend and spent the following day re acquainting myself with the old museum. As ever an astonishing variety of exhibits but still the feeling that work is in progress...
Popped into Mercedes World expecting to be underwhelmed but it is really impressive. I'd seen photos of the dismantled Mercedes F1 art car but it is awesome to see it close up :

Recommended as a great day out - also take a look at the You Tube clip of the last Vickers Vanguard landing at the remains of the runway in 1996 - scary stuff and I don't think the CAA would allow it in these "enlightened" days !!

Well worth a visit. Some stunning cars, both inside and outside:

And the history of non-stick frying pans:

But the suspended explosion has been done before. The first time I saw it was at the London motor Show in 04:

The chap in the middle is the designer of the concept:

I've no longer got my notes so I've no idea of his name. Really enthusiastic chap, whilst artistic he was in no way arty. It was damned difficult to get a decent photograph of it.

the previous exploded F1 car is a Honda and the team Mercedes happen to have purchased used to be Honda. It's the same car with new badges/paint on it.
Blimey, what a cheat!Ironically, the tyres have lasted well.

Yep. At most I think there's different front/ rear wings and sidepods to match up with one of the newer cars but all the mechanicals and small pieces are from the Honda.
I don't remember anything looking like it had been put on from a newer car when I saw it, except the tyres. They didn't even bother replacing the fuel tank which has Honda clearly written on it.Forums | General Motorsport | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
