F1 2014 - first timer

Ok the wife and myself want to get to our first F1 race next year. Having a 11yo and 8yo daughters who both enjoy watching racing which would be a ideal race to go to.
I looked at silverstone this year, middle of the range grandstand tickets, camping and the price was ££££ a lot.
We are happy to travel but and even add it to a week or long weekend holiday but this needs to be in the school hols.
So any suggestions or ideas for attending our first F1 race ?

I wouldn't go to Spa with two young Children. It's always absolutely packed and has poor facilities.
If you can travel go to Budapest

for 11 days, had a great time
Flights, general admission tickest Novtel hotel with breakfast 1350.00 all in.
Plus £35 taxi each way to the race track.

Spa is great but the comments re kids are valids. It's pretty 'blokey' with loads of groups of lads from UK, Poland and Germany. It's a nice vibe but it's more like Le Mans compared to some events. I haven't done the Spanish GP but did do MotoGP at Catalunya last year and the circuit is the best I've visited in terms of facilities and civility. The food is decent, the toilets great and the whole thing is just well-considered, clean and pleasant. I'm an old school kind of a motor racing fan but came away really impressed with how well everything just 'worked' at Catalunya. Plus you can rent a little apartment in Barca for a few days and turn it into a holiday. My missus loved it! No idea how it fits with school holidays but as a modern motor racing experience, it's the most civilised I've experienced.
Saying that, there's nothing like sitting in the rain high above Pouhon surrounded by 20,000 others watching and hearing your heroes go work around Spa. Absolute magic and something every race fan should experience.

Spa would be my choice, probably the best choice of General Admission viewing spots versus any other European F1 circuit (Pouhon is great, as is Kemmel) , facilities aren't THAT bad (let the ladies use the pay loos), use one of the family friendly campsites, roughly 3 hours driving from Dunkirk, and the place reeks of history. With a GA ticket you can stand at the F1 Village and see the cars going up Eau Rouge, I will NEVER forget the first time I saw that! Prepare to get wet and you'll be fine. And waffles. Don't forget the waffles....
Spa for camping but stay off site, we did Classic Spa this year and stayed in a very nice campsite 5 mins drive PM and I will dig out the details and you can book direct. Do GA and take some fold up chairs.
Alternatively some friends of ours went to their first this year in Monaco. They did Fri and Sat and not the race, they loved it, it was quieter they stayed down the coast and got the train into Monaco and they watched the race on TV and went to the beach after!
Get the kids some big ear defenders not just ear plugs.

I must have had a bad experience at Spa but booked a grandstand ticket with parking last year.
Went on the Saturday but virtually impossible to get a space as everyone had set up marquees and bbqs etc.
Went back on the Sunday just before lunch and was told parking full and was directed to an overflow car park that was a good 35 minute walk from the entrance gate.
We booked grandstand seats. These were approx. £300 and you still had to pay to use the toilet that was located within the fenced off grand stand area. All they had were a couple of cubicles for the whole grandstand and so you had blokes just pissing on the floor under the grandstand.
We gave up trying to buy any food and drink as it was a nightmare.
The grandstand seats were cramped and tiny such that we gave up on them after 30 minutes as they were so uncomfortable. And this was one of the gold grandstands overlooking Eau Rouge.
As I said Spa could be great as the circuit is superb but the organisation and facilities are a joke and it is not the place to take a family.
I would go back for a trackday but not F1.
